‘I found solace in sport’ These are the words of Olympic javelin thrower Fatima Whitbread, who bronze and silver medals at the 1984 and 1988 games. 🥈🥉 Many will know that Fatima grew up in children’s homes before she was adopted by her javelin coach Margaret Whitbread at the age of 14. She has an incredible story to tell, and we caught up with her earlier this year to hear about her experiences of the care system and how sport was her saviour during challenging times. Resharing this great post. Thank you David Cross for being a strong ally voice to so many of us in the antitrust and legal worlds. It is so painful for me, and I am sure very many others, every time I hear or see incessant and unnecessary hair comments. Instead of focusing on what women say, do, or accomplish, people are weirdly obsessed with commenting on women's hair. ALL THE TIME. Simple compliments like your "hair looks nice today" are one thing but, in my experience, mentions of hair beyond that are typically unnecessary, often loaded, distracting, and frequently stress-inducing to the hair bearer for many reasons others may not know or understand. For me it was the constant hair talk by those (even well-meaning or unknowing) who just had to comment on my hair as I worked through chemo, donning a wig, losing ALL of my hair down to the last painful eyelash, or not feeling like my true myself for 3 years while it grew back. While I was so fortunate to not ever be "sick" from actual cancer, and had no evidence of disease even when I lost my hair to preventative (adjuvant) chemo, the hair loss and regrowth was probably the most emotionally painful part of my cancer battle. For other people there are so many other painful experiences hair comments trigger. I can't speak for them, but I feel for them. I feel for Simone and Princess Catherine and every other person who had to keep performing, smiling, or faked a thank you when the hair dig or "compliment" punched them in the gut. Just because we are strong women, doesn't mean it is easy. All this goes double for talking about hair in the workplace...JUST DON'T...even if you think it's a compliment, it probably isn't. Find something else to talk about to connect with others. Ideas = all the non-hair ways that person is awesome, sports, kids, pets, weather, office tech problems (PSA - suggest never asking anyone when the baby is due either!). Can we just have NO MO' HAIR TALK? This is my hope. Weekend rant over...back to watching the Olympics while not thinking about anyone's hair.
Simone Biles, now the winningest American Olympic gymnast of all time, had a message for people commenting about her hair. See more from the Olympic Games in Paris: https://cnn.it/3Wzfg9A

I agree with your points Steve. Timely access to trained health care professionals has proven to improve outcomes and reduce chance of persistent symptoms. As for baselines, studies do support multimodal baseline testing, rather than one or two tests in isolation. That’s why I love the Complete Concussion Management Inc. tools as they have all the evidence based tests that when pooled give more validity and higher level of sensitivity as well as tests different aspects of brain function. The neurocognitive test also has sandbagging detection to reduce those who try to deliberately put in low effort. But we still need more clinicians to get thorough training. There is still a consistency issue with management and that’s why I champion the training that I do for physicians and physios and other AHP’s.
A story about how I learnt (too late) about the dangers of concussion in sport. Don't tell me concussions don't happen in community rugby. If anyone has a suspected concussion — remove them from play immediately and get them checked out by a suitably trained medical professional who knows & understands concussion and can conduct a comprehensive assessment to guide recovery and ensure safety. Take concussion seriously. Who knows, it could happen to a member of your family. #ifindoubtsitthemout #concussion #concussions #sport #rugby #team #mentalHealth Donna Sanderson-Hull Hywel Griffiths

From Manu Bhaker to Vinesh Phogat to Neeraj Chopra - 2 bronze , 1 heartbreak , 1 silver(no disrespect to anyone and all the medals appreciated). It is not about the games, it is not about the medals. It is about our support. It is what we do in those 4 years rather than what we expect in that one month. What do we think is going to happen when we, as individuals only watch any sport when we win. We can’t expect any more medals if you don’t know a Manu Bhaker or a Avinash Sable, or a Lakshya Sen, or a Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, or a Manika Batra or the whole of hockey team, archery team. As a country we are failing our citizens our sportspersons. Do you agree?

In a world where youth is often equated with peak performance and the prime of life, a remarkable group of athletes stands as living proof that true greatness knows no age. Their enduring prowess and unyielding spirit not only inspire awe but also challenge the very limits of human potential. Well-known Journalist Meenakshi Rao documents how sporting legends prove that age is only a number. Read her full article: https://lnkd.in/g2cYUxpE

In rugby the ball is tossed backwards as the player moves forward. Keep this in mind and get your audience interacting with each other not just with you. Lester Holt uses a technique where his correspondents send the story back to him by using his name with a question mark after it. That is a rugby move. Another might be you, as the presenter, saying: “Jack give us your thoughts then you can send it to Amy and she will send it to Sharita.” Before Sharita begins, you say: “After Sharita we’ll go to Sam, Agim, and finally to Lilibet.” This allows some preparation for a quieter, more reserved audience. Pulling names out of hat works too! What are your thoughts on this? I would love to hear! #PresentLikeAPro #PresentationSkills #PresentationTips
