Memorial Day Originally called Decoration Day, for the early tradition of decorating the grave sites with flowers, wreaths, and flags. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service to our country. Many will be enjoying the long weekend with cookouts and all means of starting the summertime fun outdoors at the lake, beach etc- It's important to remember what the holiday is truly about. The families that have lost loved ones likely don't care that much about the BBQ's..... The servicemembers who survived while losing some of their brothers and sisters also have a much different experience than a long weekend of fun. They tend to re-live the trauma of their experience of loss and having seen things no human should have to see. Some even feel guilt for being the ones who made it home Please remember all of those in these situations, and reach out to those you know and offer a hug, love and compassion The best way to honor Memorial Day is to keep those who perished in serving our country alive in our hearts and memories, as well as offering love and support to the survivors Peace

A weekend of memory and where May sneaks a preview of summer ... Memorial Day weekend marks a time of reflection and tribute of those who served and passed in serving their country, during peace or war. And it is also the unofficial start to summer, being a popular time to travel, socialize, and engage in recreation. There will be parades, cookouts, solemn observances, commemorations, a whole host of feelings and activities. The ideals, freedoms, and security fought for and supported by those who have died and are honored this day, take shape in different ways, and perhaps one is how we get to live life and enjoy inalienable rights, as imperfect as the social process may be at times. And these aspects are observed this holiday weekend. We hope you have a safe, healthy, and meaningful Memorial Day and weekend, and time spent well. Lessons learned from Mr. D: 1. Tell your family how much you love them multiple times a day. 2. Keep the door of your home open to friends and family for a great meal and cold drink. 3. Keep the pool ice cold, not sure why but it's super memorable. 4. Coach and volunteer in your town. 5. Always be willing to drive kids home after practice, regardless of how far from your home they live. 6. Love and respect your country and neighbors no exceptions Happy Memorial Day!

Hello, I am posting on behalf of my Mum. As many of you will know, she sadly died suddenly in May. We have had an incredible outpouring of sympathy and well wishing. With this in mind, we couldn’t fit everyone who wished to say farewell to her at the funeral due to capacity issues. We will be holding a celebration of her life on the 19th of October at the V&A Dundee. Please complete the form below if you would like to attend. Please also share as you see fit, with people I won’t be able to reach. Thanks in advance. Johnny H https://lnkd.in/eT8xwT9C Any questions please let me know directly.

What the world needs now…
They didn’t ask you what side of the fence you are on, the color jersey you wear. They didn’t ask how you plan to vote nor which policy is the most critical. They raised their hand to support and defend the ideals written that formed this nation. To support this nation, to support you, against all enemies. Their sacrifice was not for one, but for all. Honor them by living in love. Yes, love. Love for your neighbor and your community; even for yourself. Allow yourself to have a conversation, to listen, to shake a hand, and to work and build something together. Understand it was their sacrifice that allows you to choose love, as it also allows you to choose hate. But to honor them - TO HONOR THEM - choose love.

The definition of the word memorial is "something that keeps remembrance alive." Today, we think on the warriors who've defended our freedom.
