In recent years, I've had the privilege of exploring various processing techniques in the realm of plastic manufacturing, but none have captivated and challenged me quite like the spunbond process. My focus has been particularly on the Reifenhauser Group Reicofil Technology. This journey led me to delve into my master's thesis, dedicated to the recycling and reutilization of spunbond filaments. Early on, I envisioned closed-loop systems to minimize waste during production pauses. With the support of EREMA Engineering Recycling Maschinen und Anlagen Ges.m.b.H. we successfully produced a high-quality rPP, conducting trials on a Reifenhäuser Reicofil pilot plant at Sächsisches Textilforschungsinstitut e.V. (STFI) It's gratifying to witness the growing significance of quality, recycling materials, and alternative polymers in this field, fostered through engaging discussions with existing and new clients. This type of tech is very interesting to me. 2 quick comments: - Tech Stack and total Number of Software Tools: I know a lot of different OEMs are starting to deploy IoT tools. These tools are proprietary and often lack best practice integrations which hinders intercommunication some even lack simple CSV exporting let alone API integrations needed for true tech stack integration. Just this week I watched a manager toggle between 3 different IoT tool monitoring programs to view his whole shop. Leading to a clunky experience with incomplete reporting as only half had any such monitoring. - Marginal advantage: This is an economics term that offers a quick way to analyze cost trends job to job, especially across job shops. Look at the cost of the last unit of production. If you produced 1 more unit, how much did that 1 additional unit (or marginal unit) cost. Having tools that allow complete monitoring of overhead analytics like this allow better control of marginal cost - resulting in a comparative advantage to other similar companies without having to develop true Q/A systems like 6Sigma stat analysis. Keeping the total number of software tools low and focusing on marginal cost reduction will help any job shop reduce costs and be more competitive without having to specialize in some local technical advantage.
