Privacy Sandbox is not good enough? Great! For once, Google has built a sub-par product -let's take advantage of it! Privacy Sandbox is just one of the alternatives built to solve for cookie deprecation. There are many others that have already been proven to be effective in cookieless environments. Why are we obsessing over the Privacy Sandbox and calling for Google to save us all? Cookie deprecation is an opportunity for the industry to develop solutions that effectively achieve marketers' and publishers’ goals while respecting data protection regulations. Why do we want to lock ourselves into a Google-operated framework and increase our dependency on big tech?

Are you concerned about your own privacy? Do you realize that data has everything about you? I am saying obvious things. Just read about cookies. After a few reinforcements I comprehended cookies in depth. I mean I am not desclosing any secret. Every devoper knows what cookies are at some level of abstraction. But detailed picture is that cookies with conjunction with pixels has been collecting complete online acivity of everyone. Money from advertising pays the bill for the data processing and even long term storage, but did not you notice you do not have a choice to actually pay to become private even money? Or how much does it cost to be private? Can privacy be a human right? Does someone know whether privacy is a human right? It so comforting just not to think about this. But to think about this is what I would call “woke”…

Happy new month all! Two data protection articles in the last few weeks that has caught my attention News 1 is about Google Privacy Sandbox What is a sandbox? A sandbox is like a safe, isolated area where you test things without affecting the rest of your computer. Imagine it as a digital playground where you can try out new software or code without risking any harm to your system. For instance, when you download a suspicious file, a sandbox ensures it doesn't mess up your entire computer. Now, why does Google Sandbox matter? Well, it's a mysterious filter that affects how new websites rank on Google. It can delay their appearance in search results, even if they've done everything right so understanding it matters. Google has decided not to deprecate third-party cookies through Privacy Sandbox, opting instead for a new approach that offers "elevated user choice. "Initially, aimed to enhance user privacy by preventing tracking through third-party cookies, supporting first-party data collection.

In a significant development, Noyb, an Austrian advocacy group, has initiated legal action against Google in the EU, alleging that the tech giant has been collecting user data without proper consent through its "Privacy Sandbox API." Introduced in 2023, this mechanism was intended to phase out third-party cookies, yet it appears not to fully safeguard user privacy as it still enables Google to track user activities and preferences directly through Chrome. The complaint emphasizes that the supposed privacy-preserving features of the API were misleadingly presented, possibly deceiving users about the true nature of data collection. Given Google's pivotal role in online advertising, such actions have sparked concerns over both user privacy and competitive fairness. 🔏 We scanned nearly 3,500 websites to uncover the most common website privacy and compliance challenges companies face today—and there's 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 to discuss. 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:  • The Meta pixel is still on 47% of sites - despite the 100s of lawsuits and regulatory actions surrounding the use of this pixel. • 67% of websites use a consent banner, but consent management tools don't work as intended. We also found that 98.5% of websites load cookies upon payload before consent can be granted.  • 2% of sites are sending data to foreign adversaries like Russia and China • 𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲. Can You Truly Disappear Online? Is Anonymity a Relic of the Past? The early days of the internet promised a Wild West of anonymity. But with ever-evolving tracking technologies and data collection practices, is true anonymity online even possible anymore? On one hand: Advanced tools like Tor and VPNs offer some level of obfuscation. Pseudonyms can provide a layer of separation between online and real-world identities. On the other hand: Cookies, browser fingerprinting, and IP address leaks can potentially reveal your identity.
