Why do we have data protection conferences? That’s because data protection is like stargazing - while we all see our own pieces of the night sky, it’s when we come together that we see the whole constellation. Last week, the Future of Privacy Forum was proud to play a part in the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC)'s flagship PDP Week 2024 - an annual week-long series of events celebrating all that is data protection and emerging technology policy. On Monday, FPF was privileged to host a PDPC-supported workshop on navigating the complexities of generative AI governance in practice. Very pleased to be able to hone this muscle, and grateful for everyone's great support despite this being our first workshop outing in APAC! To all those on the waitlist, we thank you for your interest and we hope to accommodate more people next time! On Tuesday, FPF’s VP for AI Anne Flanagan and I spoke at the PETS APAC Summit, where we were very happy to see FPF’s newest paper on Confidential Computing announced. We’re grateful for the platform to do this in Singapore - very special moment for all of us in FPF indeed! On Wednesday and Thursday, FPF spoke and hosted IAPP - International Association of Privacy Professionals Asia Privacy Forum panels on “Data Sovereignty: Nebulous, and Evolving, But Here to Stay in 2024?” and “De-mystifying India’s DPDPA”. Congratulations to Bilal Mohamed for moderating his first FPF panel - we hear response to the panel was enthusiastic (mildly speaking)! On Thursday, FPF also had the privilege of hosting alongside Rajah & Tann Asia the FPF-R&T VIP Networking Cocktail. As I reflected in my remarks, the growth of FPF APAC over the last two years would not have been possible without everyone's friendship and partnership - as we collectively help build “faith” (aka trust) in emerging technologies. It's been a tremendous week. And as the dust settles, a reflection came to mind — one particularly gratifying thing this year has been to see newer and younger faces step up in the ecosystem. This is a very encouraging sign, and shows the promise and potential of the space we’re in. As we all know, time waits for no man (or woman) — and growing the pipeline of the next generation of champions is of utmost importance to our community. A huge congratulations to Denise Wong and all of her team for another hugely successful PDP week, and a massive shoutout to all FPF-ers who were in town and who made our outings the home-runs they were. Biggest thanks go to our partners, supporters, friends - you make our everyday worth it. Here’s to PDP Week 2025! Always count on Josh to paint such an amazingly beautiful and appropriate picture! What a privilege to be able to speak with you on a panel and looking forward to many, many more to come!
Thank you for the Insightful session & workshop & I must say your speech 🎤 during the Drinks reception was not at all long & we all loved the way you addressed all of us. Cheers 🥂 & looking forward to meet you soon.
Wonderful and insightful as always, team Future of Privacy Forum! Thanks again for having me on the data panel, and the different side discussions!
Thanks Josh for having me! I really loved your opening address of what FPF also stands for - Friendships, Partnerships and Faith (Trust). Truly the core for public private partnerships for a safer world online 🚀
The feedback from the workshop participants was stellar… so another FPF workshop for PDP Week 2025? 🤣
