The NIA-AA Research Framework has refined our approach to Alzheimer's disease (AD), emphasizing biological markers over clinical symptoms. With this established framework, AD is now defined by detectable biomarkers in living patients. This essential shift allows for earlier identification of the disease through markers of beta-amyloid deposition, pathologic tau, and neurodegeneration, known collectively as the AT(N) framework.
