Streaming now @ https://lnkd.in/g7cmfPhx " How a Nurse can Combat Racism" Racism is a pressing issue that affects individuals and communities worldwide, impacting healthcare, education, employment, and beyond. It requires a deeper understanding of societal structures that perpetuate inequality and confronting individual biases. Nurses, especially those new to the profession, can help combat racism by raising awareness about diversity, cultural competence, and leadership. Nurses can participate in workshops, read literature, and engage in discussions to deepen understanding. They can also encourage coworkers to participate in cultural competence training to improve understanding and sensitivity towards different cultures. Nurses can lead by example by showing respect and inclusivity in interactions with patients, coworkers from diverse backgrounds. They can also speak up against discrimination, promote diversity, connect with local communities, and encourage anti-racism policies within their organization. Nurse, Advocate, Navigator/ MHS, MSN, RN, PMH-BC, NEA-BC, CLNC, NCC / Healthcare and Legal Nurse Consultant
I'm the go-to for extremely agitated/ imminently violent patients (and occasionally practitioners)- I'm pretty good with both rapid pharmaceutical intervention 💉 and effective verbal redirection. 🗣 Reading this though, I immediately thought of my colleague, Margaret Callaghan, and how we all go to her to start IVs on the most difficult sticks. Our patient population has infamously compromised veins, and she is amazingly skilled. 😨 (See: https://lnkd.in/gRAW8Pc8) Drass and Associates Behavioral Healthcare and Legal Nurse Consulting www.drassassociates.com #DrassAndAssociates #recoveryworks #peersupport #behavioralmedicine #addiction #addictiontreatment #policy #harmreduction #medications #medicationsafety #patientsafety #policiesandprocedure #interpretation #implementation #restraintreduction #systemnavigator #advocate #withdrawalmanagement #ASAMcriteria #OpioidUseDisorders #NIDAscience #RecoveryIsPossible #depression #parity #socialimpact #socialdeterminantsofhealth #equity #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #covid #isolation #respect #healthcarereform #mentalhealthishealth #socialmedia #conflict #opioidcrisis #substancesusedisorders #testifying #testimony #legislation #bigpharma #privateequity #hospitals #overdose #overdoseprevention #suicideprevention #congress #healthcaresystem #fragmentation #collaboration #dei #inequity #inequality #publichealth #publichealthcare #staffing #accesstojustice #accesstocare #standardofcare #regulations #integrativemedicine #integratedcare #nostigma #funding #resources #restraintreduction,
We all have those co-workers who are our ‘go-to’s’ for difficult tasks or advice. I know I wouldn’t be the nurse I am without their help and guidance. I want to know, what do you think your coworkers see YOU as a ‘go-to’ for? And to add to that, what do you hope to be remembered for when you’re done with your career? I’ll go first: I’m seen as a ‘go-to’ for difficult IV sticks and managing complicated drips and sick patients. I hope to be remembered as a calming, sure-footed, and knowledgeable source in the chaotic moments. 🩺 Taking my 13+ years of nursing experience and using it to assist in the legal field ⚖️ 📧 jessica.medina.lnc@gmail.com #legalnurseconsultant #medicalmalpractice #personalinjury #emergencyroomnurse #traumanurse #criticalcarenurse #nursesonlinkedin

Knowing your rights can make the difference… Every nursing home resident has the right to receive care in a safe and respectful environment. Unfortunately, these rights are not always upheld. As a Legal Nurse Consultant, I’m committed to ensuring that these rights are not just words on paper but are actively protected. Here’s what you need to know about the legal rights of nursing home residents… Right to Dignity and Respect: Every resident has the right to be treated with dignity, respect, and consideration at all times. Right to Safety and Security: Residents have the right to live in a safe and secure environment, free from physical, emotional, or financial abuse. Right to Make Decisions: Residents have the right to participate in decisions about their care, including the right to refuse treatment. They should be fully informed about their medical condition and treatment options. Right to Access Medical Care: Nursing home residents have the right to receive proper medical care, including regular assessments, necessary treatments, and access to their own medical records. Right to Raise Complaints: Residents have the right to voice concerns or complaints about their care without fear of retaliation. Nursing homes are required to address these complaints promptly and effectively. Take Action: If you think your loved one’s rights have been compromised, don’t hesitate to seek help. Understanding these rights and having a Legal Nurse Consultant on your side can make all the difference in ensuring that justice is served. Let’s work together to make sure every resident’s rights are respected and upheld. #LegalNurseConsultant #LNC #nursinghome #elderrights #elderlaw

Meet Emily Foster, complex care clinical nurse specialist in the compass (complex paediatric service) team. 👋 Q: What is your role? A: The compass team works with children and young people with complex medical needs who are in hospital for long periods of time. When we asked families what would improve their care, they asked for better continuity, care coordination, and communication. This is what I aim to provide by supporting and advocating for them during these long stays, and addressing psychological, social and medical concerns. Q: Tell us about a typical day A: My role is incredibly varied and depends on the needs of each individual patient and their family. It can range from helping set up a bank account to helping manage an acutely deteriorating child needing intensive care. It often involves spending time with families, ward rounds, attending multidisciplinary meetings and teaching peers or parents. Q: What’s the best thing about your job? A: The amazing families that I work with. Their incredible resilience and strength during exceptionally challenging times is inspirational. I’m passionate about helping raise awareness of children with complex medical needs, driving change and rethinking how we work with families to improve care. #TeamGSTT #EvelinaLondon #ClinicalNurseSpecialist #NHScareers #ComplexCare

The Courage to Speak Up: Transforming Challenges into Safer Healthcare A recent harrowing incident at Blackpool Victoria Hospital has underscored the vital importance of vigilance and integrity in healthcare. Nurses Catherine Hudson and Charlotte Wilmot engaged in reprehensible conduct, compromising patient safety for their convenience. This incident, while deeply disturbing, also highlights the crucial role of speaking up against wrongdoing. The student nurse who reported the misconduct displayed extraordinary courage and ethical fortitude. In an environment where hierarchy often silences voices, this act of bravery not only prevented further harm but also served as a beacon of integrity in our profession. This case is a stark reminder that patient safety is paramount and must be guarded against any form of compromise. As healthcare professionals, our duty extends beyond treatment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all patients. We must foster a culture where speaking up is not only encouraged but expected. This means supporting those who raise concerns, irrespective of their position. Institutions like Cleveland Clinic London are leading the way in creating such cultures. Let's take a moment to commend the bravery of the student nurse who stepped up. Their actions exemplify the kind of ethical responsibility that is the backbone of quality healthcare. As we reflect on this incident, let us recommit ourselves to uphold the highest standards of patient care and to support those who speak up for the vulnerable. The safety of our patients and the integrity of our profession depend on it. #HealthcareEthics #PatientSafety #SpeakUp #leadership https://lnkd.in/eW_Fj9dm

Well done that courageous student nurse for speaking out. Well done Blackpool Victoria hospital leaders for hearing and responding. Health and social care needs more courageous people who are prepared to put their heads above the parapet by speaking up and more leaders (and regulators) who are sufficiently courageous to listen and act in the best interests of those they serve.

As a nurse or broadly a health care professional, you should have a “life” outside the medical field, for medical and nursing practice is draining and you ought to stay sane, keeping serene amidst the chaos in the field. Develop hobbies that keep you alive when you are off duty, hobbies that liven your soul. Do not give depression from medical and nursing practice a room to cultivate doom #serenityamdistchaos
