👀 Shifts in Nonprofit Leadership: A Glimpse from the "Push and Pull" Report 👀 Diving into the latest from the Building Movement Project, they uncover telling shifts in nonprofit leadership dynamics (link to report below): ↘ Growing Disinterest: BIPOC interest in leadership roles has increased from 25% (2016) to 32% (2022); for whites, it's up from 35% (2019) to 44% (2022). ⚖ Why the Hesitation? 29% of BIPOC and 27% of whites are not keen on the ED/CEO role. Plus, work/life balance is a priority (25% BIPOC, 30% white). 👥 Rising Co-Directorships: From 7% to 11% (2019-2022), with BIPOC representation doubling to 12%. Hello, shared leadership! Those of us in the work know the hard facts: nonprofits are harder to run than for-profit businesses; we are underfunded, under-resourced, and underpaid. That said, we know getting to a just world is a long game. And like many of you, I am here for it. Some first principles on turning the tide: 1️⃣ Pay people more and help them build wealth. Everyone working in nonprofit work should be able to earn a good living, buy a home, raise a family (if they wish), and retire comfortably. 2️⃣ We need funders to overfund...because they have been underfunding the work for years. As many researchers have stated, there is a "starvation cycle" that has been in place for many years and it needs to end. 3️⃣ Make it easier to run a tax-exempt entity. The back office work is extremely complex and burdensome; we need great technology and support to make it easier. And a last shout-out: given how hard it is to run a nonprofit, from the vicarious trauma to the back-office complexity, shared leadership is an incredible way to not only balance the load but also to provide support, be supported, and break the isolation of leadership. Without strong leadership, a nonprofit cannot survive. The vitality of nonprofits and their unique ability to unite people stand at the core of building a better country and world. Let's work together to support nonprofit leaders! #Leadership #NonprofitTrends #InclusiveLeadership #BuildingMovementProject #NonprofitLeadership

Supporting You Embrace Who You Are & Build Who You’re Becoming. Early Career Coach | Clarity Alchemist | Community Advocate
It was an absolute privilege facilitating a workshop for the amazing resident services staff at Community HousingWorks. Working in the nonprofit sector often means forming strong bonds with the people in your communities. There's a sense of dedication that runs deep, and the lines between work and personal life can easily blur. That begs the question: is there a time you really ever "clock out"? The workshop focused on creating a holistic self, integrating work and life, and the concept of non-negotiables: those essential activities that keep you feeling fulfilled and energized. Now, here's the sweet spot: we explored how often we betray our own values by not fully embracing these non-negotiables. Think checking work emails during family time, sacrificing your morning routine to "finish just one more thing," or skipping a workout because you feel bound to stay late. Sound familiar? What if success was measured by the amount of safety we felt within ourselves to stay loyal to our non-negotiables? These are the things that are necessities to our overall well-being, deeply aligned with our values. By prioritizing these activities, we aren't being disloyal – we're leading lives aligned with our whole selves, ones we can feel proud of all around. An empowered you shows up more authentically for your residents, your colleagues, and yourself. At Love Yours, we're incredibly grateful for the opportunity to come alongside and encourage these amazing community leaders. We believe that aligned individuals lead to empowered communities, and we're here to cheer you on as you prioritize both your well-being and the incredible work you do. #CommunityHousingWorks #Nonprofit #HolisticSelf #Empowerment

In the nonprofit world, the focus is often on the mission—rightfully so. Whether secular or faith-based, nonprofits exist to serve their communities, tackle societal challenges, and effect positive change. However, one critical aspect that can be overlooked is the operational backbone that supports this mission. Efficient operational processes are not just a “nice-to-have” but are vital to the success and sustainability of any organization. Yet, all too often, nonprofit operations suffer due to a lack of financial investment and a low priority placed on them by leaders who are primarily focused on the mission. In my experience, the organizations that invest in streamlined, effective operations see a significant boost in their ability to deliver on their mission. From improving employee retention to strengthening fundraising efforts, efficient operations can have a powerful, positive impact on nonprofit organizations. https://lnkd.in/gfm6rwSj

Strategic Consultant | Leadership Advocate | Empowering Organizations & Women in Leadership to Achieve Lasting Impact
🌟 Reflecting on Danny Meyer’s 51 Percent Solution 🌟 In Chapter 7 of “Setting the Table: The Transforming Power of Hospitality in Business,” Danny Meyer introduces the 51 Percent Solution, highlighting the delicate balance between technical execution and emotional connection. This concept is especially relevant in the world of philanthropy and nonprofits. Meyer’s analogy is powerful: Imagine if every business were a lightbulb and that for each lightbulb the primary goal was to attract the most moths possible. Now what if you learned that 49 percent of the reason moths were attracted to a bulb was for the quality of its light (brightness being the task of the bulb) and the 51 percent of the attraction was the warmth projected by the bulb (heat being connected with the feeling of the bulb). For nonprofits, this translates to balancing operational efficiency (49%) and connecting deeply with the community and stakeholders (51%). 🔑 Core Emotional Skills in Philanthropy and Nonprofits: 1. Optimistic Warmth: Genuine care and positive energy foster trust and engagement, inspiring donors, volunteers, and beneficiaries to join the cause. 2. Intelligence: Curiosity and a passion for learning help nonprofits stay informed and innovative, effectively addressing community needs. 3. Work Ethic: Dedication to excellence in every aspect ensures the nonprofit’s mission advances efficiently, inspiring confidence and support. 4. Empathy: Understanding and connecting with others’ emotions is crucial, fostering a culture of compassion and responsiveness. 5. Self-Awareness and Integrity: Operating with transparency and accountability builds credibility and trust, essential for long-term success. In essence, nonprofits driven by the 51 Percent Solution not only perform well but also resonate deeply with their communities. By embodying optimistic warmth, intelligence, work ethic, empathy, and integrity, nonprofits can create lasting, meaningful impact, attracting support and fostering a strong sense of community. 🌍 In the world of philanthropy, where the goal is to improve lives and create positive change, the 51% emotional connection is indeed indispensable. Let’s strive to be that "scintillating string of 100-watt lightbulbs", illuminating our missions with both brightness and warmth. #NonprofitLeadership #Philanthropy #EmotionalIntelligence #CommunityEngagement #DannyMeyer #SettingTheTable #NonprofitExcellence #EmotionalConnection #51PercentSolution
