In the spirit of the Olympics and in solidarity with the people of Gaza, we call for a #CeasefireNow. The Olympic Games are a testament to what humanity can achieve when we come together. Yet, as we celebrate this display of global harmony, it’s crucial to acknowledge and act upon the discord that disrupts lives elsewhere. The International Olympic Committee apologized to Azerbaijan for the statements made by a France2 correspondent at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. French TV correspondent's statements contradict the principles and values promoted by the IOC through sport and the Olympic Games, and in this regard, contact has been made with the institutions and persons responsible for this matter, and they have been reminded of the IOC's operating principle and protocols in order to avoid similar situations in the future. Taking into account the biased position towards Azerbaijan of the France2 TV channel, which broadcasts the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and the IOC’s letter of apology to the country, there are expectations that the French government will also make an official apology to Azerbaijan. #Paris2024 #olympics2024

The Games show that it's still possible to talk and to get together 🌐 👉 Despite all the tensions, the Games are an opportunity to bring together, in the same event, with common rules, 10,500 sportswomen and sportsmen from 206 countries/territories that have a National Olympic Committee 👉 Compromises have been reached to allow countries in conflict to compete. For example, Taiwan is taking part under the name of "Chinese Taipei" 👉 Heavily sanctioned countries such as Iran, Syria, Afghanistan and North Korea are present 👉 Palestinian and Israeli delegations are present, despite the ongoing conflict, reciprocal non-recognition and non-recognition by many States However, the Games are neither a moment of truce nor apolitical 👉 Conflicts continue around the world 👉 The medal table is a power issue, dominated today by the United States and China 👉 Two countries are excluded: Russia and Belarus (in response, Russia is preparing to organize its own "Friendship Games" in September) 👉 The Games' audience provides an opportunity for countries, athletes, companies and groups with various claims to gain visibility or get a message across

Initially dubbed the 'People's Olympics', this summer's Olympic Games in Paris are all about enormous business on the one hand, and widespread social violence on the other. As a former world-class athlete, I am deeply concerned by the double standards in international sports. It is disheartening to see the Russian federation banned from the Olympics for the Ukraine invasion, while the Israeli federation remains represented. If crimes against humanity are not addressed equally, it reveals a troubling bias in the justice system, threatening the rights and privileges of all. Moreover, I believe many international sports federations have failed Palestinian athletes. Wildcard positions should prioritize countries in need, showing solidarity and setting examples of peace. Instead, Palestinians are often silenced or denied opportunities to compete. CONFLICT ASSESSMENT: THE POWERFUL IN WORLD CONFLICTS https://lnkd.in/grTfknXs As stakeholders in world conflicts, the influential (#celebrities) have consistently failed to use their power to prevent world conflicts and civil wars. Mbappe in France and Colin Rand Kaepernick in the USA have made stands because they are minorities and have a sense of right and wrong. That is very rare in the building of global conflicts. Right now, most celebrities are more interested in finding shelter than in preventing a full-blown national and international conflict. However, the absence of celebrities in the USA standing for what is right is appalling. Entitlement in the upper classes, Media flooding in the middle class and destructive lifestyles in the lower classes seem to suck the air out of everything. This is the fertile ground for national and world conflicts. Mbappe said: "It is an urgent juncture. We cannot let our country fall into the hands of these people. It is pressing — we saw the results, it is catastrophic.” Minority celebrities in the US will pay later. Middle-class minorities started to feel it when they, like Einstein, could not hold a job because of his background. The VIGINUM report on the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games (JOP24) highlights the threat of foreign digital interference targeting France’s reputation and the event’s smooth operation. ❗️Foreign actors, including pro-Azerbaijani and Russian-linked groups, launched disinformation campaigns to undermine France’s ability to host the Games, attack economic stakeholders, and stir public unrest. Key tactics included ⚠️false-flag operations, ⚠️doxxing of athletes, ⚠️AI-generated fake content, and ⚠️impersonating legitimate organizations like Amnesty International to discredit Israel’s participation. Despite the international reach of these campaigns, most failed to significantly impact the French digital public. ⁉️However, VIGINUM warns that even low-visibility campaigns can have long-term consequences, deepening societal divisions and eroding trust. While coordinated fact-checking and media responses helped curb disinformation, they sometimes inadvertently increased visibility. 🔑The report underscores the sophistication of foreign digital interference, particularly during high-profile events, and emphasizes the need for ongoing vigilance to protect public discourse from manipulation.
