"A bigger lesson for me about #ShiftThePower, (is that) often we are asked for frameworks, toolkits, structure to explain how we are going to achieve this dramatic shift, this fellowship taught me that we whilst we may not shift power overnight, there is a thriving community of dedicated people that are collectively working towards shifting power and that’s more than enough." In this blog #ShiftThePower Fellow Yande Kalengo shares her reflections on - What I learned from the #ShiftThePower Fellowship https://lnkd.in/gytBfr5k

🔎 Curious what I'm up to? Well, I'm 'done wasting my talents and have found inspiration to harness my ideals'. Last week, I embarked on a transformative journey with The School for Moral Ambition. Here's a brief look at their seven founding principles: 🔸 Action: Recognizing that being highly aware is not enough, emphasizing action and gratitude for human privileges. 🔸 Impact: Focusing on transformative changes, targeting opportunities with the most substantial effects. 🔸 Compassion: Broadening the moral circle to encompass all sentient beings, acknowledging their inherent value. 🔸 Open-mindedness: Encouraging a curious attitude, understanding the world's complexity with humility. 🔸 Radical Kindness: Fostering inspiration and teamwork, avoiding envy and resentment. 🔸 Enthusiasm: Motivated by the genuine excitement of enhancing the world, not by guilt. 🔸 Perseverance: Maintaining hope for the future, while acknowledging that progress is not guaranteed. Over the next 14 weeks, I will be delving deeply into these guiding principles through an immersive fellowship focused on forging real-world social impacts. This period will be more than a mere exploration; it's a structured journey marked by growth, learning and the pursuit of actionable change. Embracing the discomfort that comes with transformation, I anticipate challenges that will test and expand my understanding and capabilities. Feeling inspired? ROCKET is delighted to announce the successful completion of the first pilot of our conflict transformation through role-playing Virtual Exchange (VE)! In this VE, students from the Universities of Göttingen, Uppsala, and Groningen came together for asynchronous and synchronous activities. We combined students from courses in Academic Writing, Intercultural Competencies, and Cultivating Transformational Communities, who together explored valuable theories and skills related to meaningfully addressing conflicts. Topics explored in the VE included conflict styles, nonviolent communication, basic human needs, worldview and perception checking among others. The students were able to work with these concepts in an embodied way through role-playing scenarios involving common workplace and university scenarios, as well as examples from popular cultures especially related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 🌟 Yesterday we had the pleasure of attending Climate-KIC's learning festival, the topic was Transformative Funding for Systems Learning 🤔 💡 Some key insights by Will Wade and Nina Strandberg really resonated with us, and we wanted to share for anyone navigating similar spaces of change and collaboration: 1️⃣ Ask the right questions: Instead of asking applicants to define systems innovation, Sida and Climate-KIC found that organizations knew how to interpret it based on their own contexts and that worked better for the applications. A reminder that we don't always need rigid definitions to spark creativity. 2️⃣ Women’s involvement: A simple yet powerful takeaway: ask how women want to be involved. That intentional invitation matters. 3️⃣ Simplify the process: They streamlined the application to focus on two things: applicants simply saying in a short video what they plan to do and sharing their understanding of systems innovation and their challenges. The result? Meaningful, authentic responses. 4️⃣ Learning inquiries: Instead of focusing on KPIs, the funding was framed around learnings and organisations were asked about their learning journeys—what action inquiries were they exploring and how they held up against time. 5️⃣ Co-design matters: Instead of prescribing solutions, systems innovation practitioners were invited to co-design the application and selection process. The takeaway here: the more we can shift power from funders and give it to those who understand their context, the more impactful the solutions. 6️⃣ Toolbox for the future: Looking forward, there’s excitement around building a systems innovation toolbox, empowering more organizations to navigate and implement complex change. You can still join the Learning Festival today and tomorrow by registering at this link: https://lnkd.in/eWEVxV8T #SystemsInnovation #CoDesign #CollaborativeLearning #InnovationForChange #LeadershipInAction

I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Digital Scholarship Hackathon hosted by ASU Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics at Arizona State University. The event focused on knowledge sharing in the digital humanities, exploring the profound impacts of technology on society and how it transforms our approaches to study and knowledge dissemination across various disciplines. The day was structured uniquely, blending elements of a #Hackathon, #Unconferences, and a #HumanitiesandTechnologyCamp. This dynamic setup fostered a collaborative and innovative environment. It was really cool to have half the conference participants from Thunderbird School of Global Management, including Tawanda Vera, Hewan Asgedom, Victoria Minerva, Sanjivani Seeliya, Aya Warde, Sahana Suresh Mohan Kumar, and Anumoy Chatterjee. Top Takeaways from the Hackathon: Choose Wisely: Reflect deeply on your project choices. Consider the longevity and impact of your involvement. What meaningful contribution is your project making? Seek Partners, Not Services: Prioritize building partnerships and finding collaborators who share your vision and goals. Credit and Responsibility: Acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of your team. Be prepared to take responsibility for any setbacks. As a newfound digital humanist, I'm excited to use this lens to approach my future endeavors in sustainability, smart city technology, and urban development. Understanding how technology influences society and enhances our capacity for knowledge sharing is crucial for these fields. Thank you to everyone who made this event possible! #DigitalHumanities #Hackathon #KnowledgeSharing #Technology #Collaboration #Sustainability #SmartCities #UrbanDevelopment
