In a capitalist economy, prices allocate capital and labor between competing uses, and capital assets can be privately owned and controlled. Over 5,500 people engaged with my comment on the U.S.’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization—a move that raises critical questions about the future of global health governance. For decades, the U.S. has been a major architect of global health initiatives, shaping policies, funding disease surveillance, and driving pandemic preparedness. But stepping away from the WHO challenges the very structure of multilateral health cooperation. It makes me wonder: 🔹 What does global health security look like when a key player steps back? 🔹 How will this reshape disease surveillance, pandemic preparedness, and funding for low-resource countries? 🔹 Will new global health alliances emerge, or does this signal a move toward more fragmented responses to health crises? The WHO was born out of a post-war world seeking unity in health—so what does it mean when a founding nation pulls away? Curious to hear your thoughts.
