“Private sector innovation and investment have been a relentless force for good in the fight against HIV, TB, and malaria… We invite the private sector to build on these achievements, scale up impact, and ultimately create a world free from these deadly diseases.” Now is the time to protect the gains we’ve made against the world’s deadliest diseases, and support countries and communities to build resilience in the face of growing health threats. At #WEF25, The Global Fund framed the investment opportunity to the private sector - US$2 billion will deliver a return of 1:19 in health and economic returns. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eF_iHKwk

🌍 Sentinel Surveillance: A Key to Global Health 🦠 Political unrest and global inequality have weakened epidemiological surveillance. The emergence of SARS underscores the need for robust global systems. The Agency for Cooperation in International Health (ACIH) developed a sentinel surveillance system for infectious diseases across South America, Africa, and Asia. This system has identified unreported diseases like cholera, plague, and influenza, and tracked polio, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and C. Despite its limited scope, this system supplements global data, proving vital in disease monitoring. Expanding such systems is crucial for enhancing global health efforts. Antimicrobial resistance is one of the fastest-growing threats to public health – linked to 5 million deaths per year. Bacteria are changing – becoming more resistant to the drugs we have. Infections that were once curable are now untreatable. People with HIV, TB and malaria are particularly vulnerable to infections that are increasingly resistant to treatment. The Global Fund partnership invests in strong health systems that can accurately diagnose diseases – and prescribe the right antibiotics to treat them – and in new drugs that can tackle resistant and emerging bacteria. We can defeat antimicrobial resistance – and keep people everywhere safe from infectious disease.

Today, the Philippines Country Coordinating Mechanism for the Global Fund Grant to end HIV and AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, approved the proposed revisions of its Governance Manual. Key changes on the manual includes : 1. Increase representation of key populations of the three diseases; 2. Adoption of Global Fund Policy on Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment; #PSEAH 3. Strengthened policy and processes on Conflict of Interest Managememt and Mitigation; and 3. Incorporated the four core principles of CCM leadership and an integrated performance framework. This was a long and uphill struggle, and definitely was not a stroll process. There were countless exchange of ideas and introspection. Yet, in the end, the PCCM is united by the common goal of good governance, transparency, and accountability. Now, we move forward.

On 1 December, 2024, DAI Fleming Fund Country Grant Pakistan stands next to our partners to commemorate World AIDS Day 2024. As the drug-resistance strains of viruses and bacteria make the treatment of infections difficult, the risk for the people living HIV/AIDS increases manifold. Their weak immune systems make them vulnerable, especially to food borne bacterial infections. Responsible and rational use of antimicrobial and following the prescribed treatment, along with enhanced awareness, can help them mitigate the impact of AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance). The role of communities is critical to addressing the threats of AIDS and AMR. When the citizens are aware, they take responsibility for Health for All #WorldAIDSDay. Involvement of the people leads to collective action for the good of all. Today we need collective plans and actions to defeat AIDS and #AMR #WorldAIDSDay. “Let communities lead to prevent together AIDS and AMR! Let’s take everybody on board #WorldAIDSDay”. #OneHealth #FightAgainstAMR #MyHealthMyRight Qadeer Ahsan Arsalan Ali F. Diana Thomas Ingrida Skarinke

Imagine doing nothing about a virus that causes AIDS and related illnesses like reactivated tuberculosis (the leading cause of death among HIV+ patients), infects children with whooping cough, and fuels fungal infections and cryptosporidium—all on the rise since the pandemic began. Now, imagine having tools like respirators, air purifiers, and improved ventilation, yet collectively ignoring the threat as if it’s not your child, not your problem. This virus also causes brain damage. Imagine being brain damaged. Only an idiot or a sociopath would do nothing. Maybe it’s time to do something. Maybe it’s time to be better.

Heart attack prevented by a simple blood test? Did you know? A simple blood test could predict your risk of a heart attack within 6 months! How is it possible?🚨 Scientists have identified about 90 molecules that serve as biomarkers for an imminent cardiac event, including the brain natriuretic peptide: a diuretic released by the heart. With heart attacks striking roughly every 40 seconds in the U.S. alone, this breakthrough from researchers at Uppsala University in Sweden could revolutionize preventive care! 🔬 But rapid tests are not just for heart health. They are also invaluable in diagnosing infectious diseases swiftly and accurately. 🦠 From the common flu to sexually transmitted infections or HIV, rapid tests provide quick results, allowing for prompt treatment and containment of outbreaks.💡 Source: https://lnkd.in/eV_z3ADw #BerkeleyHealth #ScientificResearch #Prevention #PreventiveTesting #MedicalNews

WAAW; World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week is here with us.📌📌 💥Did you know.... An estimated 1.27 million deaths were found to be a direct result of antibiotic resistant bacterial infections in 2019 – a magnitude at least as high as major infectious diseases such as HIV or malaria. 1 in 5 deaths from resistant bacteria occurs in children under 5.[8] Many more have suffered from resistant infections but recovered. Figure below by ReAct.
