As we watch new homes sprout around Cranbrook, our thoughts naturally turn to education. With family houses come children, and with children come the responsibility to provide quality schooling 🏫. That's the clarion call echoing from the heart of Kent's picturesque countryside. Cranbrook School's esteemed headteacher has spoken out for the need to reconsider the closed High Weald Academy. Increasing investment in programs like Woodcraft Rangers for middle and high school youth is more important now than ever. A recent report published by the Partnership for Children and Youth found that while investment in expanded learning (afterschool and summer) programs for K-6 students have increased, as they should -- our teens are being left behind. Older youth deserve and require more enrichment, peer support, and academic and career guidance. Through evidence and examples, the report presents ways for policy and decision makers to work toward solutions, including increasing funds, better data and evaluations, and intentional partnerships between schools and community-based programs like Woodcraft Rangers. 🎉 Nixa received the rankings from US News on our junior high, intermediate, and elementary schools. We are excited that all of our schools placed in the top 20% in the state, and many are in the top 3%. 🦅 Nixa Junior High is the #5 middle school in the state of Missouri and was the second highest in the Springfield metro behind Central High School's magnet program. Mathews Elementary was the top elementary school in the Springfield metro area. 👏 These results continue to show how Nixa is one of the elite districts in the state of Missouri. Thank you to Haverhill Book Buddies and Haverhill Promise as they partner to successfully grow a tangible 3rd Grade reading program essential for student success with equity in education and then jobs important to their future livelihood. The program creates opportunity for upward mobility which is so important to Haverhill students and adults to live fulfilling lives. From Haverhill Promise Web Site: WHY IS SUPPORTING LITERACY SO IMPORTANT? Reading is a foundational skill that impacts every area of our lives. For example, children reading on grade level by third grade are more likely to graduate high school and secure employment. Literacy is also an important step towards ensuring equity for students and provides critical skills for all students to thrive academically.
