MAINTAIN YOUR FOCUS AND PASSION ..... remember, perspective is entirely dependent on your starting point. Consider my journey, for instance. I began as a Key Filer at the #TorontoSheratonCentre, a hotel with 1407 rooms, where my task was simply to organize the bedroom keys behind the front desk. Fast forward 40 years, and I've opened 5 hotels, renovated and rebranded 3 others, and lived in 7 countries across 4 continents. And now, I have the honour of leading the amazing #DorianHotel team, an incredible group of passionate hospitality professionals. Has every day been wonderful? Certainly not, we all experience highs and lows. However, it's important to keep things in perspective. Take moments to reflect on your completed projects, earned certificates and positions, and the lives you've touched. It's only when you look back that you fully appreciate how far you've come. This retrospection not only reveals the magnitude of your growth but also fuels your drive to continue and to motivate others. Redefining the very essence of hospitality, Essential Hospitality is dedicated to personalizing service and pushing the boundaries of traditional expectations.

Recently, during my stay at one of the Four Seasons hotels in the Asia-Pacific region, I stumbled upon an extraordinary book. Its author, someone who had never aspired to be a hotelier, had penned a captivating and inspiring piece. I firmly believe that every dignified and respected hotelier should read this work. However, even more crucially, every associate within this esteemed hotel company must delve into its pages. I now find myself frequenting FOUR SEASONS HOTELS wherever my travels take me. Over time, I’ve stayed in many of these establishments, and they consistently exceed my expectations, discreetly catering to my every need. While Isidore Sharp, the visionary founder, is no longer actively leading the company, he remains its Honorary Chairman. A new leadership team now steers the ship at all levels. Yet, I sincerely hope that Issy continues to keep a watchful eye on the organization. You see, I harbor a genuine concern—I wouldn’t want this unique company, with its remarkable endurance and resilience, to devolve into just another American underdog. These companies, unfortunately, excel at extracting profit by squeezing every drop of juice from a metaphorical lemon. Their service standards and product quality often fall far below the mark, leaving customers dissatisfied and unheard. For these misguided individuals, the true essence of professional hospitality seems lost. Their relentless pursuit of increased earnings per share (E.P.S.) comes at the expense of genuine customer care. It’s disheartening to witness their disregard for the very people who sustain their business. In summary, let us not allow this once-exemplary company to lose its way. May it continue to uphold the principles that made it exceptional—a beacon of true hospitality in a world where such values are increasingly scarce.
