So the oldest US Military Academy is changing it mission statement? Conservatives are upset but to me all US Citizens should be upset. I am far from a Conservative and yet I see no need to this change. The change from "Duty, Honer Country" to "Army Values" is wholly unnecessary. Why could the mission statement just added these words if this addition was deemed necessary? So the Mission Statement could have read, "Army Values with a Sense of Duty, Honor, Country" or words to this effect. Also would the right wing please STOP using the work "WOKE", every time they don't like something. It is a word the right wing coopted from the Black Movement for Racial Justice (which the right wing does not like also). Now "Woke" seems to mean a word used by Republicans and their supporters to mean anything Conservatives do not like. Conservatives need to stop using this word. https://lnkd.in/gE_PV_xx

GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE! JIMMY CARTER NEGOTIATED THE RELEASE OF THE IRAN-CONTRA HOSTAGES, BUT THEY HATED PRESIDENT CARTER. Although patient diplomacy conducted by Deputy Secretary Warren Christopher eventually RESOLVED THE CRISIS, the Iran hostage crisis undermined Carter's conduct of foreign policy. The crisis dominated the headlines and news broadcasts and THE MEDIA made the Administration look weak and ineffectual. It is now very clear that there were two separate agreements, one the official agreement with Carter in Algeria, the other, a secret agreement with another party, which, it is now apparent, was Reagan. They made a deal with Reagan that the hostages should not be released until after Reagan became president. What was the effect of Carter's attempts to free the hostages in? The hostages were returned to the United States immediately. The United States increased its purchase of Iranian oil. After the weapon sales were revealed in November 1986, Reagan appeared on national television and stated that the weapons transfers had indeed occurred, but that the U.S. did not trade arms for hostages. The Administration’s vitality was sapped, and the Soviet Union took advantage of America’s weakness to win strategic advantage for itself. In 1979, Soviet-supported Marxist rebels made strong gains in Ethiopia, Angola, and Mozambique. Vietnam fought a successful border war with China and took over Cambodia from the murderous Khmer Rouge. And, in late 1979, the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan to support its shaky Marxist government. In light of these challenges to global stability, President Carter significantly altered his view of both the Soviet Union and the advice of his own advisers. Carter initially favored Secretary Vance’s policy of negotiation, but by 1980 was more receptive to National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski’s more confrontational stance. Once again the National Security Council and the Department of State were in open conflict. The issue came to a head when Secretary Vance opposed a mission to rescue the hostages in Iran—a move championed by Brzezinski. Vance had been correct—the 1980 mission was a debacle. But Vance was frustrated and he resigned in protest in April 1980. Cyrus Vance was the first Secretary of State clearly and publicly to tie his resignation to a difference of opinion over policy since William Jennings Bryan in 1915. Carter chose Senator Edmund Muskie as his new Secretary.
It’s time to celebrate! Jimmy Carter, America’s humanitarian-in-chief, is 100 years old today! The longest-living former U.S. president co-founded The Carter Center in 1982, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1999, and won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. The former Navy man, peanut farmer, governor, and husband to the late Rosalynn Carter will mark his big day at home in Plains, Georgia. bit.ly/3zFj0Pf

What is often unspoken about Memorial Day is its origins in the quest for civil rights and the search for peace. According to the Office of Veterans Affairs, it originated after a series of “Decoration Days” were organized by Black and White communities to honor fallen soldiers following the Civil War. One of the most significant of these events was held by a group of Black and White abolitionists in May 1865. In 1868, General John A. Logan, the head of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), a politically powerful organization of Union veterans, made it an official act, speaking of the practice of floral tributes and “Decoration Days” in the context of post-war Black civil rights. It was not until after WW1 that Memorial Day began to expand to honor the dead from all American wars. As we take time today to celebrate the lives of those fallen soldiers who have served this country, let us also remember that the origin of Memorial Day is rooted in the struggle to end slavery and the search for “permanent peace. Black veterans have played a significant role in shaping the trajectory of American history since the nation's inception. Their contributions have been profound and multifaceted, influencing military campaigns, civil rights movements, and societal progress. Understanding the historical numbers of Black soldiers provides a glimpse into the magnitude of their impact. The legacy of Black veterans continued to evolve throughout the 20th century after serving in both the American Revolutionary War and the Civil War. In World War I, over 350,000 Black soldiers served in segregated units, demonstrating valor and resilience in the face of adversity. World War II marked another significant milestone, as over 1.2 million Black soldiers served in various capacities, including the famed Tuskegee Airmen and the 761st Tank Battalion. Their contributions helped secure victory overseas and fueled the momentum for civil rights back home. Today, Black veterans serve honorably in the armed forces, contributing to the nation's defense while advocating for equality and justice. Their enduring legacy serves as a reminder of the invaluable role they have played and continue to play in shaping America's history and identity. “Your New Dawn Awaits” Available 24/7 for Help 📲 702-595-2995 www.firstdawnrecovery.com #firstdawnrecovery #veteranrecovery #veteranrehabilitation #rehabilitationcenter #mentalhealth #veteranmentalhealth #lasvegasrecoverycenter #lasvegasrecovery

The Congressional Medal of Honor Society and Medal of Honor Foundation’s Mission is this: Mission: The Congressional Medal of Honor Society is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Medal of Honor, inspiring America to live the values the Medal represents, and supporting Recipients of the Medal as they connect with communities across America. One of the major tenets of the mission is “Preserving the Legacy” and “inspiring America to live the values the Medal represents”. Through education (the Foundations CDP Program) is one of the major ways we are able to do this. I have also attached a link to the shared website of The Congressional Medal of Honor Society and The Medal of Honor Foundation. CMOHS.org Due to the importance of preserving the Medal and educating the public I am sharing the process/chart The US Army uses. Each and every step in the chart has many more steps and components but this is the easiest way to learn about it. Recommendation Process Receiving the Medal of Honor is the highest honor bestowed by the American Military and personally presented by the President of the United States. Because of the need for accuracy the recommendation process can take in excess of 18 months and sometimes decadess with intense scrutiny every step of the way. The chart below outlines and demonstrate this process. It is truly the most intensely scrutinized and investigated award in the world.
