Every year, more than 3 Million young people drop out of college due to an expense of $500 or less which they cannot cover. At Orangewood Foundation, we believe that every young adult should be able to go as far as they can dream, no matter where they’ve come from. This year, Board Member Sona S. and her company My Private Professor have spearheaded an effort to create a match on Giving Tuesday to support our Lifelong Learners fund. This fund supports students who are still in foster care with school related expenses like science camps and athletic uniforms; students in community or four year degree programs, certificate or trade schools, and young adults pursuing their advanced degrees. We support the whole student, because we know that - to stay the course- students need more than just tuition and books covered. The matching pool is currently $25,000! Today, your support will go twice as far in supporting youth pursuing their dreams through education. Support Orangewood Foundation this giving Tuesday by: 1. Donating: Your contribution, big or small, will be matched dollar-for-dollar, doubling its impact. 2. Spreading the Word: Share about Orangewood Foundation with your network to inspire others to give and encourage them to join in and take advance of this matching opportunity. If you are able to give, you can do so at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gu-FJuVj

Nelson Mandela once said, 'Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.' This Mandela Day, let's harness that power to make a difference in the lives of young children. This Thursday, July 18th, we celebrate Mandela Day by dedicating 67 minutes of our time to something impactful. This year, let's focus our efforts on Early Childhood Development (ECD) and contribute to shaping the future of our youngest generation. Why Early Childhood Development? Early childhood is a critical period for brain development, laying the foundation for lifelong learning, behaviour, and health. By supporting ECD initiatives, we are investing in the future of our communities and the well-being of society as a whole. Ideas for Your 67 Minutes: 💡Donate Educational Supplies: Gather books, puzzles, and learning materials for local ECD centres. 💡Create care kits with essentials like toothbrushes, toothpaste, and healthy snacks for children in need. 💡Organise a Community Drive: Host a blanket or food drive to support families and children in your community. 💡Collect toys and games that promote learning and development. 💡Volunteer Your Time: Spend your 67 minutes reading to children at a local ECD centre. 💡Assist with activities or play sessions, helping to create a nurturing environment. 💡Raise Awareness: Use your social media platforms to share information about the importance of ECD. 💡Encourage your network to participate in Mandela Day by focusing on early childhood initiatives. 💡Support the Indaba Foundation: Donate to the Indaba Foundation to support our CoRE (Community Rooted Early Learning) program. 💡 Share our mission with your friends and family, encouraging them to contribute as well. Links for Donations and More Information: Donate to the Indaba Foundation: https://lnkd.in/dSXvpim Learn More About the CoRE Program: https://lnkd.in/dVKbCN3 Nelson Mandela's legacy teaches us the value of giving back and making a difference. 📚 Recent data from the California Assessment of Student Performance reveals a concerning decrease in Kern County's literacy levels. Early childhood literacy is foundational for academic success. Let's celebrate organizations like United Way of Central Eastern California for working tirelessly to intervene and uplift literacy rates. Together, we can empower the next generation through the gift of reading. 📖 #LiteracyMatters #EducationForAll
Creating opportunity starts with early literacy. United Way is creating opportunities and a better future for children in our community by providing our youngest students with the tools and resources they need to succeed. When children grow early on in school, they're more likely to graduate from high school and go on to be college or career-ready. Donate today and create opportunities for all children to thrive: https://lnkd.in/g4qrSzkc

🎉 2023 Unwrapped: it's time for SHC's Year-in-Review! Check it out ➡️ https://bit.ly/3NsAn9z ⬅️ Looking back, SHC’s motto for 2023 might be best summed up as “we'll find a way.” Despite growing need and numerous other challenges, we advanced policy and practice to help children and youth overcome homelessness through education, from prenatal through postsecondary. In this year-in-review, you'll find a summary of the major issues we tackled in 2023, the progress we made, highlights around each of our program areas, and popular SHC resources in 2023. We hope you'll be reminded of what we all accomplished — together. We know that education changes lives, and it's through education that our children and youth will overcome #homelessness. We look forward to continuing our collective work in 2024. 💥 We also invite you to join us in building on this year’s accomplishments through a donation to SchoolHouse Connection. From December 1-December 31st, 100% of donations will support our YLS scholars, and will be matched by an anonymous donor, up to $5,000. ➡️ https://bit.ly/3tk7ZQb

3+ decades in engineering & solutions leadership, working with global teams and technical alliances world-wide.
Tandem (Tandem, Partners in Early Learning, a fantastic organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area) works to give kids a great start to learning, focusing on children ages 0-5 (the sooner you can start learning, the better your life’s outcomes). Apparently, MacKenzie Scott endorses Tandem’s approach and execution: Scott’s philanthropic organization just granted $2 million to Tandem, a whopping grant. If you believe in children, if you believe in education, I encourage you to support Tandem with your money, or your time, or your re-posting of Savitha’s announcement below. Or, find an organization near you that focuses on children and figure out how to support them. Even one hour a year is helpful. Seriously. Go try it. (Way to go, Tandem!)
Tandem, Partners in Early Learning is extremely excited to share that we’ve received a $2 million gift from the Yield Giving Open Call! The #YieldGivingOpenCall – managed by Lever for Change – focused on elevating organizations working with people and in places experiencing the greatest need in the United States. Tandem does just that by building a society of supportive children's development by partnering with families and educators to co-create interactive learning experiences paired with books reflective of diverse cultures. This gift is a testament to our partnerships with families, educators, and community organizations, and would not be possible without your support.
