While job boards and websites can be helpful tools to securing employment, did you know that many employers do not advertise all of their open positions online? With the rapidly evolving employment market, positions are opening faster than companies can post them. When you arrive at a DAV job fair, it’s important to stop at every booth and see what open positions they have. You will be surprised at how many different skills you can bring to an industry you might not have considered. For the full schedule of 2024 DAV job fairs, both in-person and virtual, along with more employment resources for veterans, visit jobs.dav.org.

Here’s how it works: On the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, from 1:00pm – 3:30pm, they host online job fairs so you can connect with employers from home, on your cell, at your local library or wherever is most convenient for you! This is a great way to talk with several employers at once and explore local jobs that are now open. Their next event is May 7th The events are for “All industries/All jobs” type of opportunities. One of the requirements to complete your registration is to upload your resume as a .PDF file not a .DOC file. Here’s a tip on how you change it. If the file was previously saved, select File > Save a Copy. If the file is unsaved, select File > Save As. 1. Select Browse to choose the location on your computer where you want to save the file. 2. In the drop-down list, select PDF. 3. Select Save. Use the .PDF resume when you are registering for the virtual job fair. Here’s a “how to register” video. This week's #TransitionTip is to support students with disabilities to explore employment opportunities by attending local job fairs. Here's a step-by-step guide to get started: 🔘 Research Local Job Fairs: Find out about upcoming job fairs that feature accessible opportunities for people with disabilities. Many local chambers of commerce, community centers, or employment agencies host these events. 🔘 Prepare the Student: Help the student create a list of companies to visit and questions to ask, such as "What skills are important for this job?" or "What is your hiring process for individuals with disabilities?" 🔘 Attend Together: If possible, attend the job fair with the student to offer support and guide them through conversations with employers. 🔘 Reflect Afterwards: After the event, discuss the companies they spoke with and their interests in specific jobs. This will help them focus on their career goals and next steps. Now go out there and start exploring careers by attending local job fairs! 😎
