Exciting news from British Columbia! B.C. Hydro has announced a groundbreaking initiative to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar and battery energy storage systems across the province. Starting this July, homeowners and businesses can qualify for rebates up to CAD 10,000 ($7,341) for installing a combined solar photovoltaic (PV) system and battery storage setup. This initiative not only promotes sustainable energy solutions but also empowers individuals and businesses to reduce their carbon footprint while enhancing energy independence. But that’s not all—B.C. Hydro is extending targeted rebates, potentially reaching up to $150,000, to apartment buildings, schools, community organizations, local governments, small businesses, social housing providers, and Indigenous communities. These incentives aim to support diverse sectors in embracing clean energy solutions tailored to their needs. This initiative aligns with B.C.’s new Clean Energy Strategy, unveiled recently, which underscores the province's commitment to fostering a green economy, creating jobs, and ensuring affordable electricity for all. B.C. Hydro, the electricity company in British Columbia, Canada, has pledged to provide subsidies to homeowners and businesses who install rooftop solar and battery energy storage systems. B.C. Hydro will provide eligible homeowners with subsidies totaling up to 10,000 Canadian dollars (7,341 U.S. dollars) for the installation of "qualified solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and battery energy storage systems." The utility said last week that the subsidies will be issued later in July. B.C. Hydro said it will also launch targeted solar + battery subsidies for apartment buildings, schools, community organizations, local governments, small businesses, social housing providers and Indigenous communities, up to $150,000 depending on individual customers. The new program supports the new province-wide clean energy strategy released on June 27, "Powering Our Future: B.C.’s Clean Energy Strategy." The strategy focuses on building an economy powered by clean energy, creating new jobs and opportunities, and keeping electricity prices reasonable. Source: www.pv-magazine.com

This is "doing it wrong". We are constantly preached at that solar is the cheapest source to have ever existed, yet uptake in Ontario collapsed when the subsidies were removed. If solar is truly inexpensive enough to warrant further investment in Ontario, the province should be building and operating it at cost through OPG, where its existence isn't as a profit centre, but as capacity that displaces gas. Incentivizing wealthy homeowners who can afford to put solar on their roof by compensating them almost 6x the market rate for the gas they are displacing is brazen wealth transfer and wholly inappropriate. It was wrong when Wynne and McGuinty did it with FIT, and it's wrong now. https://lnkd.in/gRqbzEbD

Residents in Miami-Dade County can save THOUSANDS on #energybills, THANKS TO a $1,134,700 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. This funding will provide 44 low-to-moderate income homes with free 5kW #solar systems. By joining a solar #cooperative, these households can also benefit from immediate cost savings and contribute to a collective saving of roughly $840,000 over the lifespan of their #solarpanels. This investment showcases how federal funds can support local communities, to ensure that #cleanenergy solutions reach those who need them most and build access to the clean energy economy.

Senior Advisor for Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy at U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), #Team46 Biden-Harris Climate Appointee Leader
Yesterday, DOE State and Community Energy Programs (SCEP) released our latest State & Local Spotlight newsletter and am reeling with the amount of opportunities available... One of my top highlgihts this week is the announcement that applications are open for the $36 million Enhancement & Innovation (E&I) competitive grant program from the Weatherization Assistance Program (#WAP)! You might not be aware, but the WAP program is one of the most restricted programs at DOE in terms of how the funding can be used to improve the efficiency and indoor quality of low-income residents across the U.S. There is a strict savings-to-investment threshold and an average cost per unit that the States and community action agencies need to follow, which often restricts the types of improvments eligible. As a result, investing in innovative energy savings measures was not possible...until now! As of the EPACT 2020, 2% of the WAP formula funding each year can now be carved out to invest in new and innovative techniques to enhance how we lower utilities bills and tackle energy burdens in low-income households. In short, this E&I grant aims to expedite the nation’s shift to #cleanenergy through #demonstration projects that apply #innovation to the #weatherization program. These projects will not only support low-income homes by making them safer and more comfortable, but they are also an opportunity to explore new weatherization techniques and technologies and showcase best practices that could be adopted across the country -- such as electrifying systems with heat pump HVAC and heat pump water heaters, adding rooftop solar and battery storage, new types of windows and insulation, and more. U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) plans to issue multiple awards that will fall in the categories of Multifamily, Single Family & Manufactured Housing, or Workforce Development. -- each award with a maximum amount of $2 million. And the other good news is, eligible entities include a wide variety of players including existing WAP grantees, subgrantees, and also other nonprofit organizations that work in the energy efficiency sector. Learn more about the new E&I grant by signing up to attend an informational webinar on August 6, 2024 at 2 p.m. ET, and don’t forget to apply by or before September 27, 2024! Massachusetts has secured a $156 million federal grant from the U.S. EPA’s Solar for All program to boost solar programs for low-income residents. The grant will provide zero-interest loans, financial subsidies, and technical assistance to help install solar panels on affordable housing and public housing facilities. The initiative aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, create energy savings for overburdened households, and support renewable energy businesses. This transformative investment is expected to impact low-income and disadvantaged communities in Massachusetts significantly. #SolarForAll #CleanEnergy #Massachusetts Link to the full story below: https://bit.ly/3V7fa8d ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neeeco increases energy savings by making your homes energy-efficient. 🏠 ✅

“It’s absolutely extraordinary by world standards. We’re streets ahead.” About one in three Australian households has rooftop solar panels. And in the state of South Australia, it’s nearly one in two. These are absolutely brilliant numbers. So how’d it happen? Per The Guardian, “there was no overarching plan that made Australia the world leader in household solar PV,” but rather a combination of factors. And the most important one? “An easy-to-access, upfront national rebate available to everyone [that] endured. It has helped make panels cost-effective and easy to install.” The clean energy transition has to be easy, affordable, and accessible for all. That’s how you get real results. As tax credits roll out and rebates take shape stateside, it’s crucial that it’s done in a way that makes sense for everyday Americans. And that’s where we at Rewiring America come in. We’re here to reduce friction and help you take advantage of all the benefits that clean energy has to offer. Let’s do this. https://bit.ly/3QJCPdX

Great to see this project where brownfield land is being converted for renewable energy generation. Remote communities often suffer from reliance on supplies that need to be trucked in. Generating power closer to demand helps reduce reliance on diesel fuel while creating jobs for the community. #sustainabledevelopment #energytransition
