How will we power the 🤖 ? Energy needs are increasing and scarcity might go up faster than many think. The need for higher energy supply is likely to be in part triggered to fuel AI. Some estimate that by 2030 AI data center could account for 20-25% of the US energy consumption (5 times more than the current estimate). Where will the increased power come from or where will it be taken from? As we move towards a more sustainable energy future, Oil & Gas will continue to play a role in meeting the world's energy needs. Renewable energy sources are gaining popularity but they are not yet capable of meeting the world's energy needs on their own and might even struggle jointly with fossile ones. Oil & Gas continues to be essential to meeting the world's current energy needs. Transitioning towards a more sustainable energy future requires a careful balancing of economic, environmental, and social considerations, and it is essential that players in the field act together to identify and developp the infrastructure investments necessary to achieve this balance. From renewable energy sources to smart grids and energy storage solutions, there are a wide range of infrastructure investments that can help to address the challenges of energy scarcity while also promoting sustainability... in case we fail to adapt, the machines might have to be powered Matrix style... https://lnkd.in/evzK9n_w

🗞️ In the news: Our founder Olivier Corradi was recently featured in a BBC News article discussing how AI can help create a more resilient electricity grid. Electricity Maps was highlighted for its forecasting technology that can predict electricity generation from wind and solar sources with great accuracy and thus help the smoother integration of renewables onto the grid. As Olivier states in the interview: "If you can predict quite accurately in advance how much wind you're going to have in the system, you can plan ahead." This foresight enables optimizing for the varying supply renewable energy - for example, big companies can shift energy-intensive tasks to times when the grid is cleaner. ♻️ Read the full article to learn more about the critical power of AI for the future of our grids: https://lnkd.in/dRKCyqzC #AI #greentech #renewableenergy
