Dreams do come true! Just ask Terry Rochester, a 61-year-old seasoned drummer from South Carolina who struck gold in a Guitar Center sweepstakes.  Terry won an all-expenses-paid trip to sunny Oxnard, CA, where he enjoyed an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Drum Workshop, Inc. (DW Drums) and selected his own free custom snare drum. The prize package also included a surprise dinner with celebrity drummer Gregg Bissonette, leaving Terry completely stunned. This awesome experience was another testament to the power of music to positively impact and uplift lives. Check out Terry with Gregg from a trip of a lifetime! #LifeAtGCC

I love to see what GC is doing with the brand. I walked in a store near my home the other day for the first time in over six months. You are doing everything right from the product, to the merchandising to the new energy level from the staff. We need a strong national player in music retail, and I am cheering for your success.

    Ep. 02: Creating a Life as a Professional Drummer with Arthur Buckner Arthur “L.A.” Buckner is a performing musician, teaching artist, and producer from the Northside of Minneapolis. He holds a master’s degree in Percussion Performance from McNally Smith College of Music. Currently, LA is playing with his band BiG HOMiE, teaching drums, and also serves as co-host for the two-time Webby award-winning PBS music education YouTube series Sound Field, a video project exploring the music theory, production, history, and culture behind our favorite songs and musical styles. Back in 2020, LA took iTunes by storm with the release of his project, also titled BiG HOMiE, which reached #1 on the iTunes Jazz charts. On this episode, LA and I dive deep into his artistic journey, from learning and playing music through his church to getting his degree, playing in tons of local bands, finding his own authentic voice, and how being a teacher and mentor accompanies and supports all of it.

    How to beat the feeling of being overwhelmed when learning to play guitar! There are a lot of great artists out there. Many long past and some current. When learning to play, don't feel as if you have to learn every song ever made. Find records with the best versions of the techniques you are trying to learn (chicken picking, jazz techniques, bluegrass techniques, rock techniques, etc) and learn those. This means you have way less material to learn and when you learn that material, you will have the skills you need to learn any other material from those genres.
