My nephew, an engineering student at Monash University Malaysia, embarked on his journey like many undergraduates — balancing academics while preparing for the real world. As part of his degree requirements, he had to complete a 3-month internship, a crucial stepping stone before graduation. With a growing interest in technology and a passion for innovation, he aimed to find an internship that would give him hands-on experience in the field.
One day, a career fair was hosted on campus, featuring various local and international companies eager to offer internships and job opportunities to students. Among them was a high-tech public company from Penang, known for its advanced technology and strong presence in export markets. Their impressive portfolio of cutting-edge solutions and global reach instantly caught his attention. My nephew made sure to visit their booth, armed with his resume and a keen interest in learning more about the company’s operations.
The representatives were looking for interns who could bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm, and my nephew fit the bill perfectly. After a series of interviews, he secured a 3-month internship in the company’s engineering department, focusing on export-oriented projects. He quickly proved his worth, demonstrating his technical skills, strong work ethic, and ability to adapt to new challenges. He not only contributed to the team's ongoing projects but also presented creative ideas to improve processes.
As the internship progressed, it became clear that my nephew was not just another intern — he was someone the company saw potential in. His supervisors were impressed with his dedication and ability to think outside the box. When his internship was nearing its end, my nephew was called in for a final evaluation. However, instead of a typical debrief, he received an unexpected but exciting offer: a full-time position upon graduation.
My nephew’s story is a testament to how an internship, combined with determination and hard work, can lead to long-term career success. What started as a requirement turned into a valuable opportunity.
