Trigger Warning: This post discusses themes of family and domestic violence. If these topics are triggering or distressing for you, it may be best to skip this post. In Australia, an average of 110 people lose their lives to domestic and family violence each year. This staggering statistic reminds us of the urgent need for change. This May, in honour of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month, SPS Facilities is proud to participate in the Darkness to Daylight event. By joining Challenge DV's Darkness to Daylight, we are taking a stand, driving community awareness, supporting intervention efforts, and raising crucial funds to prevent domestic and family violence. Every step we take honours these lives and helps to create change. Support us by donating to our fundraising page: https://lnkd.in/gwgBpZGZ Every contribution, big or small, brings us one step closer to a future without domestic violence. Together, we can turn darkness into daylight. 💜🌞 #DomesticViolenceAwareness #DarknessToDaylight #SPSFacilities #SupportTheCause #MakeADifference #endDFV #DFVPM2024 #ChallengeDV

Dressember is here! 👗 All month long, advocates around the world are dressing up to raise funds and awareness to end human trafficking and violence. Here's a sobering fact: Forced labor generates an estimated $236 billion annually—that’s nearly 20 times the revenue of the 2024 Paris Olympics. We cannot stand by while people continue to suffer. Thousands of people have raised $20 million in the last decade to combat this injustice. Every dollar raised helps International Justice Mission (IJM) relieve victims, restore survivors, prevent exploitation and amplify survivor voices. Ending the business of #humantrafficking is possible—and it will take all of us working together. Will you join the movement? Many advocates commit to the #Dressember Style Challenge in early December! You can participate for the whole month or just for #DressemberForADay on December 11. We’ve got everything you need to fundraise, spread awareness, and engage your community. Bonus: The first 1,000 people to sign up for #Dressember2024 will get a $50 donation on their fundraising page! This offer won’t last long—sign up today and increase your impact: https://ow.ly/wgIx50Uiy39

Human Trafficking is a Global Health Crisis that we all need to be aware of. We Run Oakland: For Children was formed because of the high incidence of trafficking in the city of Oakland and Alameda County. However, this issue is not unique to Oakland - the perils of trafficking impact many communities in CA and the United States. No matter what country, state, county, or city you live in, we should all share the humanitarian goal of protecting one another, especially the most vulnerable. To that end, we welcome you to have an Oakland mentality in this anti-trafficking movement. Build community power through awareness, conversation, advocacy, and action. There is even a virtual option to participate, so we have all our bases covered. We would love to see We Run Oakland in your city...We Run Oakland in (insert your city) _____, you fill in the blank! A Sista’s Touch (AST) & DopeOnly (DO) will be hosting our 7th Annual charity 5k run/walk, “We Run Oakland: For Our Children”, to raise human trafficking awareness. The event will be held on Saturday August 24, 2024, from 8am-12pm at Oakland Technical High School. While there are many causes to stand for, WE run and walk for the protection of our children against the greatest human rights violation of modern day time. The most effective way to protect our daughters/sons/grandchildren/nieces/nephews and our community, is to first recognize that human trafficking is a global public health crisis that requires community engagement to make an impact; AND to learn ways you can protect your family and others from the negative consequences to our community. This event is more than just a 5k, it is a family community event, designed to bridge community with resources to help prevent or to intervene where there is on risk of trafficking or exploitation. There are many ways to get involved: YOU can REGISTER to participate, YOU can INVITE others, YOU can DONATE, YOU can VOLUNTEER, and YOU can SHARE the information with family, friends, and professional organizations - We are always looking for Corporate Sponsors. The fight to stop human trafficking begins with YOU! Register now at: https://lnkd.in/gsE_parA Contact us at: Info@asistastouch.org

How many bandaids does it take to fix a broken system? Meet Kelsey, whose work with Supplemental Security Income applicants reveals deeper truths about homelessness. She points to a critical gap: while immediate resources matter, we need to invest in prevention through education and community support. Her insight reminds us that homelessness often stems from lack of networks, not just resources. Ready to move beyond bandaids to real solutions? 11moA high level of comestic violence - and a lack of protection by the law - is also a sign of a "culture of violence" that is relevant for #peaceresearch . That is what my studies show.
