Part of what makes a house museum so intriguing is not the expected, on-theme collections, but the oddities. The objects that stand out and make an impact just for being so very different from the rest of a collection. Delving into the stories of the quirkiest objects is insightful and sometimes silly, providing real context to the people who built and inhabited these homes. From objects to architectural details, explore 10 quirky items at different Historic Artists' Homes and Studios and National Trust Historic Sites across the country. https://ow.ly/Oqxk50Ts4kq

Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past. ATTN NASHVILLIANS WHO WANT TO ACTIVELY SHAPE OUR FUTURE… are you also controlling the past?? Are you controlling your present?? If you haven’t already signed up, this is an incredibly powerful way to take this moment in time to directly impact the way we move in the future… to combat the censorship and revisionist history some other (ahem) groups are pushing. Historians know that it’s not just about interrogating the voices we do hear, but also interrogating the cause of absent voices. And asking “If the voice were present, what would it say? How would it impact the story that’s being told?” Too much of history education is already reduced to excerpts and quotes taken out of context, and truly voices are at real risk of erasure. Come hear their stories before they’re lost to history so that we can impact a more thoughtful, inclusive future. Also Tamyra Gordon MSEd is just really fantastic and you should support her work. 💥

It’s August - officially days away from our Greenwood Seneca and #preservationsocietynashville next Your Legacy Tours event at TRAVELLERS REST HISTORIC HOUSE MUSEUM INC 🖤 If we don’t go back with the goal of reclaiming their names and narrative then we leave them to be erased. Join us on their grounds, the space they occupied and continue to call them into existence. The truth is at risk of extinction. Let us be their storytellers. 📖✊🏽 Link to join below. ⬇️ A few spots left. https://lnkd.in/g_VmHAdy

"Working on the largest cultural infrastructure project in this country’s history has blessed me with powerful conversations—not just about the future of our design, but about every aspect of our fragile sector." Alex Sarian, President and CEO of Arts Commons, is on a mission to reinvent the cultural sector in a time of crisis. As we look forward on the brink of transformational changes, Alex's newest book "The Audacity of Relevance" acts as a companion piece to our efforts; providing valuable context and insight into the work being done to advance not only the future of Arts Commons, but of Calgary's civic life. "Alter Echoes" out now! My latest project just released at Curated by Girls. “Alter Echoes,” a collaborative project by photographer Shari Annabell Marks and Movement Director Marie Zechiel, explores the dynamic nature of identity. Through four chapters, the work delves into diverse personalities, presenting them like museum statues. It challenges the idea of a fixed identity, instead celebrating the multiple versions of ourselves that emerge over time. Shari and Marie’s collabo-ration offers a thought-provoking perspective on the ongoing evolution of the self. https://lnkd.in/erK_rja5
