Why would you give back a racist and sexist millionaire his millions? Instead donate the cash to racial and gender justice activity. When faced with systemic problems we get #angry. And that's fine - it's a good indicator that there's an #injustice that needs to be fought. But, then we must turn to, what can we DO? Thoughtful and habitual #inclusion requires, deep #acknowledgement of the structural issues that create discrimination, a #listening/learning/reflection period, then resolving to move forward #differently, with new personal and organisational framework of #behaviours. Understanding how you can do this might be an #uncomfortable journey, but isn't that also an indicator? This time, of good growth. And, thankfully, there are people around (like me) who are #compassionate and #honest agents of change, to help. https://lnkd.in/drtsbX69

So many people are drowning today in the UK and far away. NOKS has done what it can to raise awareness to help those in distress. Our strong support of such charities as the RNLI, My Body Is My Body, Refuge, White Ribbon, Safe Spaces Locations, and Feeding Britain is indicative of this. We support also the attempts to make Britain a safer place for women. A recent event in the UK saw a lady forced to leave a meeting because she expressed a particular view in support of women's rights. All over the UK those rights are under threat as a formidable intolerance sweeps the land. NOKS is here to defend women against this new tyranny, which is the antipathy of everything that Britain used to be. In that regard our support of the Women's Rights's Network is a case in point. Women are entitled to safe spaces. They should not have to share them with trans women. Women have never been more vulnerable in the modern age, with attacks on their very right to protest seemingly becoming the norm. Previous safe spaces are no longer the places they used to be. The WI, for example, now admits people who have simply self identified without a Gender Certificate being needed. This is simply not right and thousands of women will in all probability leave this year because of this. The WRN supports action against a number of abuses. Not least in our hospitals where 6,500 rapes and sexual assaults have occurred in the last four years, some against people who were only 13. This is a national disgrace yet you hear little about it. Please visit the WRN website and see what they are doing. They are doing what other organisations should be doing, namely, protecting women and ensuring that there are safe spaces for women. They are 50% of the population and not a minority. It's about time that those who run our society recognise that fact instead of taking us back to the dark days of previous centuries. Support the Women's Rights Network in all that it is doing in its fight to keep Britain safe for women to live in. ➡️ RESOURCE ROUND-UP ⬅️ #Feminist activists defend justice and human rights. They are targeted for who they are and what they do. How can we support and protect them? There are many organizations we are working alongside to defend activists against reprisals. Here are three key resources to bookmark as we build a collective care response to help protect activists. 📍Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law and Development, “Claiming Rights: Claiming Justice: A Guidebook on Women Human Rights Defenders.” https://lnkd.in/gdhXhCKq 📍Urgent Action Sister Funds, “How Can We Ground Ourselves in Care and Dance Our Revolution?” https://lnkd.in/eWzq-NUG 📍Protection International, "Strengthening the Inclusion, Protection, and Wellbeing of Human Rights Defenders with Disabilities" https://lnkd.in/eGt36nhC 🔗 Find more resources at https://lnkd.in/ehRxX-Yf

As we head towards the general election, being a woman ways heavy and it would appear I am not alone with almost a quarter of women undecided about who will get their vote. I am incredibly grateful for the sacrifices of amazing, trail blazing women who made it possible for me to even have a voice let alone a vote. But it saddens me that our voices are still not getting through. - Women are 51% of the population but only 35% of MPs in the last parliament. - Research found black and ethnic minority women MPs received 41% of abusive tweets, despite there being nearly eight times as many white MPs in the study. - Only 37% of women MPs believe that the culture in Parliament is inclusive for them, compared to 55% of men. - Research shows that in 2021, a total of £4.1 billion worth of grants was awarded to charities, but the women and girls sector, which seeks to empower and support women to have a voice, received just 1.8% of these. Please take a few minutes to read the attached that sets out the challenge to the main political parties to even talk about these issues, let alone have a plan to change things. These are not just womens issues, flexible working, equal pay, equal access to economic opportunities, access to healthcare, tackling domestic violence benefits everyone. I am struggling to see how I am represented in politics today but want to ensure that the sacrifice made by so many before me is not wasted. GFS provide young girls with safe and happy spaces to be themselves and grow in confidence. Along with other organisations, they collectively represent over 10 million women and girls and are advocating for more explicit support for the key issues that continue to hold women back in life and work. #shevotes24 #womeninelections
We are proud to join forces with Fawcett Society, Centenary Action, and over 120 other organisations to ensure that women and girls are prioritised in the upcoming general election. Representing 51% of the population, our voices must be heard. Read our joint letter to learn more about this important initiative: https://ow.ly/ajxC50Sp1S2 #SheVotes24

4 days later, does anyone remember International Women’s Day? It’s shocking but unsurprising that the hatred – racism, sexism, misogyny – espoused by Frank Hester persists with little reprimand, let alone consequence. Already his statements about Diane Abbott and others are being swept under the rug by his allies. How much money does it take to make racism politically palatable? Is ‘the line’ impossible to cross because it no longer exists? At what level of influence do you become untouchable? I’m equally disgusted at the attempted gaslighting that women and marginalised communities so often hear; “He didn’t mean it like that” or “you misunderstand” or “it was taken out of context” in an attempt to muddy the waters, to justify what was originally said. Who is better qualified to assess the undertones of the vitriol, than those deliberately targeted by his words? This isn’t just on Frank Hester though. It’s on the political system that refuses to hold one of its own to account, the largest donor in history to the Conservative party and someone whose company continues to massively profit from government contracts. Particularly given the legacy of the murder of Jo Cox, it’s incumbent on political figures to not whip up hatred, especially towards people who already face so many structural barriers – and political systems to act accordingly. That’s such a basic thing to expect, yet Frank Hester still holds his positions of influence, the Conservative party retains his donations, and no one is held accountable. #internationalwomensday https://lnkd.in/etvRUYu3
Biggest Tory donor said looking at Diane Abbott makes you ‘want to hate all black women’

Today, May 16, Is Moose Hide Campaign Day. The Moose Hide Campaign recognizes that all forms of violence are unacceptable, regardless of gender. We are also aware of the disproportionate number of women who are victims of domestic and gender-based violence and the importance of engaging men and boys in addressing this issue. There were 1,181 cases of missing or murdered Aboriginal women in Canada between 1980 and 2012, according to the RCMP, with BC recording more than any other province (Native Women’s Association of Canada, 2010). However, according to grassroots organizations the number is much higher, closer to 4,000. More information can be found here: https://lnkd.in/g6BZ9mc
