Hello fellows! I wanted to reflect on my journey as a trainee well testing supervisor with the MPFM-50 of the Agar Corporation, Inc., it was like stepping into a whirlwind of learning and discovery, and here's how this experience ignited my passion and shaped my professional growth: 1- Technical Side: At first glance, the AGAR MPFM-50 seemed like a maze of wires and sensors. Yet, as I delved deeper into its workings, through hands-on experimentation and guidance from the senior service engineer of it, I understood the how and why of fluid dynamics and measurement algorithms. 2- Solving and Finding Solutions: No two wells were alike while working in the desert, each presenting its own way. Whether facing different flow regimes or unexpected fluctuations, I relished the challenge of problem-solving with data, I navigated through it and that kept our operations running smoothly. 3- The Adaptability: In the world of well testing, change is the only constant, each well and work day brought its own set of challenges. Yet, with the agility and time, I learned to adapt to shifting conditions and changes, embracing the unexpected twist with resilience. 4- Always Safety & Environment: As I stood amidst the towering rigs and sprawling pipelines, I became acutely aware of my role in safety and the environment. Guided by a commitment to protect both lives and landscapes, I was with my team with vigilance and care, ensuring that every action was grounded in principles of safety and the suitable protocols. 5- Learning and Collaboration: Surrounded by a diverse ensemble of colleagues, each with their own expertise and experiences, I found myself immersed in a symphony of learning and collaboration. Since I joined First Quantum over a decade ago as an Apprentice, I have undergone different competence transformations on different machines and sites among them domestic wiring at the golf estate and core sheds; motor control (MCC) fundamentals at the process plant; overhead line and electrical distribution network construction and maintenance; and now earthmoving equipments (specifically a Liebherr electric shovel and trolley assist Hitachi dump trucks). So proud to be part of this new journey in a supervisory role on this new energy optimization milestone by putting copper to good use on a lower carbon, battery powered fully electric trolley assist dump truck. #responsible mining

I am pleased to share that I completed a three-month summer training program at SABIC as an Operations and Maintenance Engineer. During this valuable experience, I gained hands-on knowledge of operational processes, maintenance strategies, and safety protocols within a leading chemical manufacturing environment. As part of my training, I worked on a project focused on converting hoses to tubes or pipes over one and a half months. This initiative aimed to improve system efficiency and reliability by enhancing fluid transport mechanisms used in our processes. Key Learnings: • Operational Efficiency: Assisted in optimizing production processes and improving operational workflows. • Project Implementation: Conducted a needs assessment to identify inefficiencies, collaborated with engineers on design, and coordinated installation with minimal disruption to operations. • Maintenance Practices: Gained experience in preventive and corrective maintenance strategies to enhance equipment reliability. • Safety Standards: Familiarized myself with EHSS regulations and best practices to ensure a safe working environment. • Team Collaboration: Worked closely with cross-functional teams to solve operational challenges and implement improvements. This training and project experience has significantly enhanced my technical skills and understanding of the engineering field, preparing me for future challenges in operations and maintenance.

Engineering in Malaysia happens to have a very unique career path for each type of role and really different across industries. Me personally trying to assist on elevating Engineer salary by promoting more engineer to have quicker salary improvement by assisting them securing higher salary pay. Hence, my advise, make a move after 2-3 years of your 1st job to improve your salary. Because there are also a mindset of employer "If I can pay my current engineer at salary of 3500, why should I pay for my new engineer for more" Make a move and secure better role so that people can fill in your roles as better salary for them. For freshies, plan your career well and ask recommendation from multiple people. If possible, seek for opportunity outside of Malaysia with better pay, so that you can get better pay internally. Just remember, don't settle because engineer don't only settle. Engineer improves time by time.

💡Octane Rating and CFR Engine in Fuel Refining⛽ During my final internship at the refinery of Algiers RA1G, delving into the calculations of one of the most crucial aspects of gasoline production was inevitable—the octane rating. The octane rating measures a fuel's resistance to pre-ignition (ignition without the spark plug's intervention💥) in a spark-ignition engine, with gasoline being the most common fuel. There's often an improper association of a fuel's anti-knock capacity with a high octane number, where a higher number implies greater resistance to pre-ignition and potential transition to detonation in certain conditions. When we say a fuel has an octane rating of 95, for instance, it means that it behaves, in terms of pre-ignition, like a blend of 95% iso-octane (with an index of 100 by definition, highly resistant to auto-ignition) and 5% n-heptane (with an index of 0 by definition, readily self-igniting). To measure octane rating, a specialized single-cylinder engine called the Cooperative Fuel Research (CFR) engine is used. By comparing the octane rating of the fuel under study with values obtained from reference fuels, we can determine its octane rating. The CFR engine is sequentially supplied with the fuel under study and reference fuels with known iso-octane and heptane percentages. During the internship, we explored the calculation method and conducted simulations of blending gasoline using Aspen HYSYS. Our aim was to analyze how adding alkylate (a proposed new low-octane gasoline) affected the final product's quality.
