🧠 Have you ever wondered why certain people always seem to get picked for leadership opportunities, while others stay in the shadows? It’s often not about their capabilities—it’s about unconscious bias. We all carry biases that shape the way we see leadership. For example: 💬 Those who speak with confidence might catch our attention faster than those who speak thoughtfully. 👥 We naturally gravitate towards people who share our background or experiences, thinking they’re more ‘leader-like’. 👀 And let’s be honest—people already in the spotlight are easier to notice than the quiet achievers. But here’s the thing: these biases might be keeping us from recognising the true leadership potential in others. 🤔 Ask yourself: ✳️ Are you more likely to mentor someone who reminds you of yourself? ✳️ Have you ever overlooked someone because they didn’t fit your idea of a leader? ✳️ What hidden talents are you missing because of these unconscious filters? When we dig deep into our biases, we open doors to new possibilities—not just for others, but for ourselves as leaders. Leadership isn’t just about making decisions; it’s about being aware of how you make those decisions and who you’re unintentionally excluding along the way. 🌱 ✨ The good news? Mentoring can be a powerful way to bring this self-awareness to light. Through mentoring, we not only help others grow—we also learn about our own blind spots, how we see the world, and how that affects the opportunities we give (or don’t give). 👋 Curious about how mentoring can help you confront these biases and create more inclusive leadership in your team? Let’s talk. At The Human Edge, we’re all about helping leaders reflect, grow, and become more self-aware through mentoring. Drop us a message—we’re here to help you expand your leadership vision. 💬 #LeadershipGrowth #UnconsciousBias #InclusiveLeadership #MentoringMatters #SelfAwareness #TheHumanEdge

Leadership and teamwork coach to business leaders looking for more resilience. .…and did a bit in the military an ever increasing number of years ago.
Toxic leadership isn't the same thing as bad leadership. We can all be bad leaders as we're all imperfect and on a leadership learning journey. But toxic leadership is someone with some authority, who isn't seeking to improve their negative attributes and changes the work environment for others in a negative way. This was one of the key takeaways from an incredible leadership masterclass last night inside our private Inner Circle. Other key takeaways were: 1. Practice and Adaptability: Leaders should continuously practice and refine their leadership skills. It's essential to adapt leadership styles to different situations and audiences, focusing on coaching and collaboration when appropriate, and being more directive during high-risk or time poor scenarios. 2. Emotional Intelligence: Be more self-aware and practice emotional regulation. You can continually develop your emotional intelligence. This improved awareness helps build trust, improves team dynamics, and enables better decision-making under stress. 3. Values should be lived and imparted: Values should be more than just words on a wall. Lead by example, demonstrate resilience to others and foster cheerfulness in adversity. Encourage ethical decision-making by integrating real-world scenarios into training and discussions, fostering a culture of reflective and ethical leadership. It's great seeing our members asking the questions most relevant to their problems or sectors, the amount of collective learning is incredible. Next one is in two weeks. #authentic #resilient #leadership #community

Talent Development Specialist at Ocado Group | Award winning mentoring advocate | Public Speaker | Host | Culture Shifter
Empathy is a powerful catalyst for positive change, especially in the workplace and when exhibited by leaders. Why is this? Well, simply put, employees want to feel valued, understood, and supported. When leaders prioritise empathy, they create a workplace that not only achieves goals but also uplifts individuals, drives personal and collective success, and roots out microaggressions. But let's face it, deep down, we're all susceptible to the allure of selfish ambitions and world domination. 🦹🏾♀️ However, embracing the skill of empathy, which is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, sets the stage for remarkable outcomes. As a leader, how can you build empathy? Mentoring is a great start, and reverse mentoring is an even better next step. I challenge leaders to step up to the plate and become a mentor...this IS National Mentoring Month after all! Contrary to conventional beliefs, leading with a genuine concern for your team is a powerful differentiator between good leadership and merely good management. It may seem counter-intuitive, but the return on investment of empathy is trust, collaboration, and a dynamic, energised culture. #mentoringmatters #mentorship #leadingwithempathy #leadership #development

I Help the C-Suite of Large Companies Navigate Times of Major Transformation: Executive and Team Coach | Fractional/Interim COO & CHRO | Change Management Leader | M&A Integration Leader | Culture Catalyst
In leadership development and executive coaching circles, I'm hearing a ton about building trust. Trust between the C-Suite. Trust between a leader and their team. Trust among team members. We think of trust as this precious, finite thing. Yet, it's the foundation of everything we do. The financial decisions we make, the relationships we enter into, the people we vote for—we make all of those choices based mostly on trust, right? As my friend and leadership coach Leah Roe, CPA, CPCC, PCC has said, "Trust is in and it's always been in." Are there ways to cultivate more trust in organizations and within teams? Absolutely. It comes down to a simple (and similar) word: truth. - It might be sharing what you know, and being vulnerable about what you don't. - Being clear and communicative about what a particular change might mean for your team. - It's being honest when it's not the outcome you had hoped for. You can't have one without the other. The more trust and authenticity there is among your leaders and teams, the stronger the trust. And when there's trust, it's so much easier to be authentic and truthful as a leader. (This also proves that LinkedIn content inspiration can come from anywhere. I was searching for a photo on iStock and happened to see this one! 😂) #trust #trustbuilding #authenticity #leadershipdevelopment #teamdevelopment

🌟 From the Ground Up: How Mentorship Shapes Leadership 🌟 Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing both the challenges and rewards of leadership. Like many, I started at the bottom, working under managers who didn’t always see my potential. While those moments were difficult, they became the driving force behind my personal and professional growth. Each obstacle fueled my determination and strengthened my resolve. Fortunately, along the way, I encountered extraordinary leaders and mentors who truly cared about me—not just as an employee, but as an individual. These people didn’t just teach me skills; they nurtured my growth and guided me to become a more compassionate and empathetic leader. Thanks to their guidance, I was shaped into the senior leader I am today, with a deep appreciation for the power of mentorship. Their wisdom taught me that real leadership is about empowering others, and nothing is more fulfilling than seeing your team succeed. Not all managers are the same. Many take immense pride in nurturing talent, fostering growth, and celebrating the achievements of those around them. As leaders, we have the unique opportunity to lift others up and create environments where people can truly thrive. The key? Approaching every situation with an open mind and a focus on growth—not just for our teams, but for ourselves. 💡 Here’s to the mentors, the leaders, and the teams who help us become our best selves. Let’s continue to lead with empathy, guide with wisdom, and celebrate the success of others. #Leadership #Mentorship #GrowthMindset #CareerGrowth #EmpathyInLeadership #SuccessThroughSupport #ThriveTogether #Gratitude

Coaching executives and teams on authenticity, executive presence, resilience & transformational leadership in 50+ countries | MA Org. Psychology | Ex-Int’l Executive @ Coca-Cola | Int'l Best Selling Author | Speaker
This drawing from the research by Clinton Sidle at Cornell University, we learn about five distinct leadership styles: Warrior, Nurturer, Teacher, Visionary, and Sage. Each style has unique strengths: ➡️ Warrior: Drives action and reshapes visions. ➡️ Nurturer: Builds on emotional connections to guide ethically. ➡️ Teacher: Leverages expertise and rationality. ➡️ Visionary: Inspires with a motivating big-picture outlook. ➡️ Sage: Views experiences as learning opportunities. Effective leadership today involves choosing the right style based on the team's current dynamics and the specific challenges at hand. My Personal Journey: After transitioning from corporate life to executive coaching, I took Sidle’s Leadership Wheel Assessment and identified my predominant styles as Teacher and Warrior. However, I realized the importance of integrating the Nurturer style to better connect with and support others on a deeper emotional level. This realization led me to consciously develop this aspect of my leadership, enhancing my ability to listen, empathize, and engage more effectively. Years later, reassessment showed significant growth in my use of the Nurturer style, validated by positive feedback from clients and peers. While it may not be my dominant style, it has greatly enriched my leadership impact. Quick Tips for Developing Leadership Flexibility: ➡️ Assess Your Styles: Understand your natural leadership inclinations and how they affect your team. ➡️ Be Situationally Aware: Match your leadership style to the team’s needs and specific situations. ➡️ Embrace Learning: View less dominant styles as opportunities for personal growth and leadership enhancement. ➡️ Seek Feedback: Regularly collect feedback on your leadership approach and its effectiveness. Embracing a range of leadership styles not only broadens your effectiveness but also demonstrates a commitment to meeting your team where they are. How about you? What is your leadership style? Empowering you to transform yourself to achieve your fullest potential through leadership growth and personal development so you can take greater control over time, money and your entire life.
When a misstep clouds our judgement, it's easy to feel as if that one error defines us completely. This is particularly true in leadership, where every decision can feel like a tightrope walk over public opinion. Yet, embracing this notion—that we are not our worst mistakes—is crucial for nurturing resilient and compassionate leadership. Leaders often face the tough task of steering through adversity while maintaining their team's morale and vision. It’s a dance of persistence and adaptability, knowing when to push forward and when to pivot. Remembering that one failure does not characterize one's entire career can be liberating and empowering. It allows room for growth and encourages a culture of learning rather than a fear of failure. In my own journey, I've seen how this perspective shifts team dynamics. During a project that did not go as planned, instead of dwelling on the missteps, we focused on the lessons learned. This approach not only salvaged the project but also strengthened our team's bond. We were able to throw in the towel on the guilt and pick up the mantle of improvement and innovation. 📌 **Practical Advice on Fostering Forgiving Leadership:** 1️⃣ Encourage open dialogue about mistakes—view them as opportunities for team growth and personal development. 2️⃣ Promote continuous learning through workshops, seminars, and courses. 3️⃣ Foster a supportive environment where team members can take risks without fear of undue criticism. 4️⃣ Seek mentorship both as a leader and for your team members. Mentors can offer perspective and guidance that are invaluable during challenging times. Let's continue this conversation and broaden our perspectives. What are your experiences with overcoming adversity in leadership? On a mission to develop leaders for good || Find and work in your Zone of Genius with 'The Strengths Deck' and 'Unleash Your Awesome'
My recent poll on leadership threw up some interesting results! I had expected a higher rating on the "might leave before promotion" answer - because it's a common objection I hear so many people talking about. But what was really cool was the conversations that unfolded in the comments, from people who had selected 'Other'. Topics raised included: 🚨 A too-narrow definition of leadership, and who is a leader 🚨 Not understanding that leadership skills can, and should, be taught 🚨 A lack of certainty about how to measure the ROI on training and development 🚨 An assumption that leadership potential will magically develop into leadership effectiveness once someone is given hierarchical authority 🚨 A belief that just-in-time training is the best approach, without examining which "leadership" skills are actually simply good interpersonal skills, that will be of benefit to everyone in the organisation to hone Because, as several respondents said, we are all always leading in some way, shape, or form. It's not just about a title or a position description - it's about your level of influence. And everyone can learn how to more effectively influence others, for the great good. Interested in upping your level of influence? I offer training and coaching that helps you do just that - drop me a DM or comment below, and we'll set up a time to chat. _________________ Hi, I’m Daria 👋🏻 ✨ I help leaders develop for good, by working in their Zone of Genius. 📖 I created The Strengths Deck and wrote Unleash Your Awesome to help you get up close and personal with your strengths. ➡️ I work with teams and individuals to build their influence and effectiveness. 💡 Follow me for ideas on how to build sustainable performance by understanding your unique strengths. #leadership #leaders #LeadershipDevelopment #strengths #PersonalStrengths #TheStrengthsDeck #UnleashYourAwesome

Global Executive, Leadership & Mental Health Coach | Global Keynote Speaker | Transforming Leaders & Teams in 50+ Countries | 14+ Global Awards | Impacting 10M+ | Let's Connect to Elevate Leadership & Well-being!
Hey Tribe, I'm thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of our Leadership Mastery Course with Impact Point International Training Group, which wrapped up just a week ago. This course was an eye-opener in many ways, especially in terms of understanding the nuances of leadership. And tribe, I will have to train you all by force heheheh. Let's start by correcting a common mistake! I've noticed a common narrative here on LinkedIn, one that I too have echoed: "Don't be a manager; be a leader." Management has often been demonized, and we’ve been encouraged to prioritize leadership over management. However, this course helped me realize that being a manager isn't inherently negative; it's about finding the right balance between management and leadership skills. Leading an organization composed of human beings, not robots, is no child's play. Effective leadership requires a combination of leadership qualities and managerial skills. When we lead with empathy but neglect managerial discipline, it can lead to challenges. For example, employees might take advantage of a lenient leadership style; some might miss work due to a hangover but claim they are at the hospital with a sick child, while others might consistently show up to work intoxicated, damaging the organization’s reputation. To be an effective leader, it's crucial to apply all aspects of leadership while incorporating essential management skills. It's about creating a balance where empathy doesn't come at the expense of accountability and where discipline doesn't undermine compassion. This experience has deepened my understanding and appreciation of what it means to be a well-rounded leader. I'm excited to implement these insights and continue growing with all of you. #Leadership #Management #LeadershipSkills #Empathy #Accountability #ImpactPointInternational #Growth
