What are the 2 worst words you can say to a New Yorker? VEGAN PIZZA. But..this was the most GENIUS way to get a hater like me to try it! Daiya Foods Inc is a vegan, plant based cheese. To drive up hype about their new cheese, they partnered with 2 Boots Pizza to launch a pop up serving up vegan slices. The line went down the block! When launching a new product or service that an audience is unfamiliar with - the smartest way is to piggyback by partnering with a familiar one. In this case - Vegan Cheese? Hmm never tried it. I'm not vegan. 2 Bros Pizza? I love 2 Bros - they make the best pizza. This must be good. I'll try some vegan pizza! This week feels big. Wandering Bear Coffee is launching our expanded 32oz organic cold brew line in five regions (200+ stores) of Whole Foods Market. It’s the first expansion of our retail distribution since we pulled back from grocery growth in March 2020 -- as our office coffee business went into sudden, deep hibernation -- so we could re-build Wandering Bear as an e-commerce led brand. #dtc was <1% of our sales at the time. Today, it’s nearly 75%. Scaling online helped create this opportunity. So did luck, persistence and the hard work of many. Brand building is a team sport. The team for this win extends far beyond our payroll. In an attempt at chronological order, THANK YOU... Elly Truesdell for foraging and giving us our initial "homework" to sell-in to a few stores... teams at WFM Tribeca, Bowery and Columbus circle for taking a risk in 2016... John Lawson for your trust when we launched the current product line and for your thoughtful advice... to the team at Dora's Naturals, including Christopher Psuik and Sean Hurley, for busting a** every day to keep us looking great on shelf… Kadijah Wellons for taking a 15-min meeting over donuts and to Charlie New for truly engaging... with us, with the data and with our vision for the future of the #coldbrew #coffee category. This is just the beginning. I referenced it, but to be explicit, this is our second time beginning an expansion of our #grocery business… we’re on page one of a new chapter. I want to talk about experience in the context of food. Spending time in the USA, in a whole host of grocers & fast food outlets has led me reeling. It's an absolute arms race of experience out there right now. Did you know ice-cream can come in the form of thousands of tiny dots? Did you know you can get frozen Coca Cola? Did you know that pizza can also come in the form of a hotdog? Did you know your hotdog can be pizza flavoured? Did you not realise you needed 30oz of coffee in one go (almost a 1tr!) Did you wonder why your drinks were not neon purple? Did you know that you can get Panko breadcrumbs in 15 different varieties? Me neither, until I came here. Truly, the USA is the home of extraordinary food experiences. Anymore anyone can point me in the direction of I'm here for it.
