🚀 Defining Expertise in K12 AI: Beyond the Buzzwords
There's been a lot of buzz lately about K12 AI experts, but what is the root of some of the frustration?
In this multifaceted landscape, expertise varies. To name a few, there are AI experts focused on societal impact, product development, and educational integration. It's crucial to acknowledge that expertise in one area doesn't necessarily translate to expertise in another.
To me, an expert in the K12 area should be someone who not only understands AI and its regulations but can also translate this knowledge into a pathway for responsible use in schools.
Having been in the classroom for 14 years myself, I understand the challenges teachers face firsthand. If I were still in that role, here's what I'd focus on to mitigate the risks and negativity:
✨ Exploration: Utilize AI firsthand to understand its potential and limitations, learning how to discern between beneficial and detrimental products.
✨ AI Awareness: Teach students to differentiate between good and bad AI, empowering them with the skills to navigate the digital landscape responsibly.
✨ Policy: Advocate for clear policies ensuring transparency, accountability, and equity in AI used in my classroom.
Time to change the narrative and move beyond the buzzwords and work together to make that vision a reality.
