November is #PancreaticCancerAwarenessMonth. Pancreatic cancer has very poor survival rates. Our scientists are dedicated to researching which genes🧬are involved in this type of cancer and find new approaches to treatment. Our work also aims to transform the landscape for patients with pancreatic cancer by making the most innovative new drugs available to patients as quickly as possible, and ensuring treatments are developed for those cancers that have yet to benefit significantly from modern advances in precision medicine. We’ve got a number of colleagues taking part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon this Sunday🎉 🎽 🏃 Check out what they do at the ICR and find out how you can support them ⤵️ Simon Francis, our Director of Estates and Facilities, has lost family and friends to cancer and, having seen how important our research is, he decided to help raise funds to continue our mission to make more discoveries to defeat cancer. https://lnkd.in/evhB8qHF Shaun Tan is an analytical scientist working in breast cancer research at the ICR. He’s running a half marathon for the first time. Shaun wanted to contribute even more to our research because he knows first-hand how much effort from scientists and funding support is needed to make progress to defeat cancer. https://lnkd.in/eamNevpD Dr Sam Lawrence is an ICR researcher working on the genetics of cancer. He’s fundraising for the ICR because he knows how important our research is in discovering and developing more personalised cancer treatments that are both more effective and kinder for patients. https://lnkd.in/e_YCYQJZ Professor Kevin Harrington is Head of the Division of Radiotherapy and Imaging at the ICR. Kevin’s incredibly grateful for the support he gets from CRIS Cancer Foundation for his research – and as a clinician scientist for the last three decades, he’s seen the impact research has had on improving and saving lives. https://lnkd.in/eEvkW7Dx Good to everyone taking part, we're with you all the way 💙 #TheInstituteofCancerResearch #ICR #CancerResearch #DrugDiscovery #RoyalParksHalfMarathon #RoyalParks #Marathon #Fundraising #Research #DefeatCancer #Science

We are delighted to be part of a new multimillion-pound research project – involving 16 institutions and 11 industry partners - aiming to discover why at least half of patients fail to respond to #Immunotherapy treatments. The MANIFEST programme is funded by £9m from the Medical Research Council and the Office for Life Sciences, and £12.9m in matched funds from industry partners. It will involve thousands of patients treated with immunotherapy across the UK. Professor Manuel Salto-Tellez, Professor of Integrative Pathology at the ICR, who is one of the co-leads of MANIFEST, said: “Immunotherapies have transformed treatment for some patients but there is still a long way to go. We need more complex biomarkers to beat a complex disease like cancer. MANIFEST aims to identify new, better biomarkers to predict the response to immunotherapies.” Read more here ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/epxbvkCa #TheInstituteofCancerResearch #ICR #CancerResearch #Research UK Research and Innovation Department for Science, Innovation and Technology #Cancer #CancerTreatment #Biomarkers

“Becoming a cancer patient has given me extra perspective” Professor Paul Workman has worked in the field of cancer research for more than 50 years and was the ICR’s Chief Executive and President from 2014 to 2021. During his leadership, he oversaw many of our scientific successes – including the development of smarter and kinder forms of radiotherapy. Something he would later benefit from himself… Having lost his father to bowel cancer and his mother to a rare bone cancer, Paul was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2022. But now with his treatment behind him, he can reflect on his experience, both as a leading cancer scientist and now a cancer patient. Read Paul’s full story ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/e_v-4zvK
