Last week, our Engineer and Sustainability Lead, Arij Mroue, had the pleasure of attending the Net Zero Carbon Breakfast Panel hosted by Envision. The discussion emphasised the critical importance of early collaboration and involvement from designers and contractors in order to drive carbon reduction - something that is also a fundamental part to our Impact//Duty strategy at Jensen Hunt. It was great to see the upfront cost of carbon reduction discussed so openly across the panel alongside ways in which this can be overcome - something that the industry is yet to address. Another parallel between our strategy and the points raised was the importance of building a culture of incremental change across the work we do - rather than waiting for an opportunity for perfection. It was also inspiring to see the critical role of carbon reduction within the substructure and superstructure package of a project, further strengthening the argument that structural engineers must led the change within the industry for lower carbon design! #netzero #carbonreduction #futureofconstruction #impact #sustainableconstruction #sustainabledesign #structuralengineering

The Importance of Sustainable Design in Structural Engineering! As structural engineers, we play a crucial role in shaping the built environment. With increasing emphasis on sustainability, it's essential to integrate eco-friendly practices into our designs. Here are a few key points to consider: • Material Selection: Opting for renewable or recycled materials can significantly reduce the environmental impact of our projects. • Energy Efficiency: Designing structures that maximize natural light and optimize energy use can lead to long-term savings and a smaller carbon footprint. • Life Cycle Assessment: Evaluating the entire life cycle of a structure—from design to demolition—ensures that we create buildings that are not only functional but also sustainable. Let’s embrace sustainable design practices to build a better future for our communities. #StructuralEngineering #Sustainability #EcoFriendlyDesign #EngineeringForChange

Traditionally, measuring and reducing the carbon emissions of the built environment has been regarded as a task for sustainability experts, often deferred until later stages of the design process. However, this is far from ideal. With Forma, our goal is to shift this paradigm. 🚀 We want to empower architects from the earliest stages of conceptual and schematic design to understand their proposal's carbon impact and contribute confidently in strategies meant to curb these emissions. 💪🤩 Interested in learning more? If you can spare five minutes, we have a video just for you. This practical demonstration gives you a step-by-step break down of how Forma can be used to significantly reduce your building's total embodied carbon. Watch, learn and spread the word. 🌎 🤗 #autodeskforma #autodesk #embodiedcarbon #carbonstudies #architects

Low carbon design starts with understanding viable options, so that you can reach your desired embodied carbon target, without compromising on your design requirements. We carry out calculations to assess the estimated embodied carbon of your superstructure and substructure design, based on your chosen materials. Our software offers detailed analysis and we can work with the team to run comparisons of different material options. This gives you comprehensive data to compare different schemes. We work with you to review the options and make changes to the design where feasible, to lower emissions from the outset of a project.
