New state funding to expand the Community Eligibility Provision will allow many additional schools to serve free school meals to all students. This will have a real and lasting impact on children and families who are struggling to make ends meet. It is estimated to save families $140 per child per month on grocery costs and will bring countless benefits to children, including improved attendance and academic performance. While this is a significant investment in reducing child hunger, it does not cover all schools. We will continue to advocate for #Meals4AllNY and urge New York lawmakers to close that gap. https://lnkd.in/eKvjXpdS

This is a watershed moment in the development of student voice for schools, communities, local authorities, and MATs. Creative Education Trust (CET) schools can now provide a contextual safeguarding solution for students across all of their primary and secondary schools. CET children and young people will now have 24/7 access to information-sharing tools that support every aspect of their lives: school, community, home, and online. In return, CET schools will have access to significant contextual data across the 5 - 18 age range from which they can develop targetted, informed contextual safeguarding interventions that they will be able to track for their effectiveness and impact. As both Ofsted and ISI move towards focusing on understanding the life experience of the child such a tool will be fundamental in creating agile and effective safeguarding and pastoral responses and cultures.
📢| Creative Education Trust Extends Partnership with The Student Voice After a successful launch across its eleven secondary academies, The Student Voice Contextual Safeguarding tool has provided invaluable information to enhance our preventative safeguarding work. Creative Education Trust is proud to be the launch partner for the innovative new primary pupil voice tool. The Student Voice is a transformative reporting tool for students, aiming to eradicate the fear and stigma associated with reporting issues. Louis Donald, Director of Safeguarding at Creative Education Trust, expressed his enthusiasm for the extended partnership, stating: "We are delighted to expand our collaboration with The Student Voice. It's brilliant to offer our pupils more ways to share information with staff about how safe they feel at school and in the community. “This initiative underscores our commitment to fostering an environment where our students can thrive and feel safe." Senior Commercial lawyer - passionate about sustainability, human rights and accessibility (All views are my own)
I’m all for schools having the power to discipline students - teachers are the people “on the ground”, and they need better pay and better supports. I’m not supportive of a power that disproportionately impacts children with disabilities and indigenous children who do not receive the support they need in the classroom. The ongoing use of behaviourist classroom management strategies serve neither teachers nor students. They are based on outdated understanding of brain development and frequently rely on shame to improve behaviour. Many common strategies include points and rewards based models which ignore the fact that simply rewarding and punishing behaviours don’t actually take into consideration whether the child in questions has the skills to meet the expectations. What this move shows is that the government is more interested in applying a bandaid solution to a complex problem. Investing in increasing supports in schools, updating behaviour management programs to reflect current best-practice around brain development (think CPS and Polyvagal Theory as starters!), and reducing class sizes would all do more to address the actual issues faced in schools. https://lnkd.in/g3zGehVh
