You talk... Educate Cast vision Answer questions that you anticipate Give more information to build confidence You even tell them the perfect gift amount from them to you But the response from the donor... No gift... You wonder why What went wrong? Not even a gift indication It's like they are deer in headlights Instead... Try listening Ask a strategic question Then embrace the silence as a profound response bubbles to the surface Now you have a donor to steward and a gift to celebrate! The difference between the two results... The Asking Academy™! Thinking about applying for a major Institute of Museum and Library Services grant this fall? Get started now. It might sound crazy, but you’ll be happy you did. Getting an IMLS grant award is a little like the lottery—if you don’t play, you can’t win. But success doesn’t depend on chance; it requires intentional planning. All month long, I’m going to be providing tips for getting #grantready. First up: Identify your project, then match it to the right grant program and category. If you’re unsure about which one, have a conversation with IMLS staff. (Yes, you can do that, and they are VERY helpful!) Nonprofit Founders Club, Nonprofit Nation Fundraising Success Roadmap, Author, Fundraising Mentor/Guide help you implement your fundraising strategies.
My philosophy and everything I do with founders is that I look at everything through donor and funder perspective. So everything I design has the non-profit in mind, but approaches the task from donor and funder perspectives. In this episode, I'm looking at the details of being grant ready from the funder's perspective. Grants should be part of a fundraising plan. So looking at this from a Foundation standpoint, they want to know you are a good investment. They see you as an investment. And so. When grants are part of a fundraising plan, you are showing them that you've thought this through and you are going to be a good steward of their money. Funders want to know that they made the right investment. So, what makes your organization a good investment? Let's jump in.
