🌱 ☕ Sustainable news from Starbucks. They’re introducing new compostable cups for cold beverages.
But here’s the kicker: only 24 out of their 17,000 US stores will see these new cups, which might seem like a small start considering the massive number of plastic cups used, especially during summer.
Why the limited rollout? Local mandates are driving this initial change.
“Customers at 24 stores will be served their favorite Starbucks beverage in fiber-based compostable cold cups,” a Starbucks spokesperson shared. This move is part of Starbucks' broader commitment to cut landfill waste by 50% and ensure all customer-facing packaging is recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2030.
It's a step in the right direction, showcasing Starbucks' dedication to #sustainability.
If you live in California or Minnesota, you might notice your next yummy-yummy frappy-frappy in a new cup.
Starbucks is rolling out a new, compostable cup design for cold beverages. The new cups are similar in appearance to the standard white single-use cups with the green siren #logo in front used for hot drinks but are fiber-based and #compostable. The new dome lids for cold beverages are also fiber-based and white. The double-insulated cups also come lined with what Starbucks describes as a “bioplastic” material.
