We underestimate the power of recognising people’s personal contribution. Many of us are used to looking out for things that are going wrong. After all, if something's wrong, it needs to be fixed before it damages clinical productivity, or affects the bottom line. But do you actively look out for things that are going right? And how often do you show your appreciation for people who are performing well Join Black Country Healthcare where we see what you do, where we celebrate your work…. https://lnkd.in/ehie6w7Y

Expert in Emotional Intelligence & Inclusive Behaviors. TEDx Speaker. | Corporate Trainer | Keynote Speaker | Author of upcoming "Emotional Intelligence: The Underrated Superpower for Professional and Personal Triumph"
Celebrating Oliver Lewis: A Legacy of Resilience and Inclusivity 🏇🏾 This Black History Month, we pay tribute to an extraordinary figure in sports history, Oliver Lewis, and his landmark victory in the first Kentucky Derby in 1875. Riding Aristides to victory, Lewis's achievement is not just a testament to his exceptional talent as a jockey but also an enduring symbol of resilience and inclusivity in the face of adversity by African Americans. 🌟 Emotional Intelligence in Action Oliver Lewis's triumph represents a profound display of emotional intelligence (EI). Amidst the post-Civil War era's racial tensions, Lewis exhibited remarkable self-awareness, composure, and empathy. His ability to navigate a challenging social landscape, maintaining focus and grace under pressure, serves as an inspiring example of the power of EI in overcoming obstacles and fostering unity. 🤝 A Milestone for Inclusivity Lewis's win in the Derby, at a time when African American jockeys were both common and facing immense discrimination, highlighted the critical importance of inclusivity in sports and beyond. It reminded us that talent knows no racial boundaries and that achievements are possible through collaboration and mutual respect, transcending societal prejudices. As we reflect on Oliver Lewis's legacy, let's draw inspiration from his story to advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of life. Let his victory remind us of the importance of embracing EI to navigate complex social environments and the transformative impact of inclusivity on achieving collective success. This Black History Month, let's commit to recognizing and celebrating the contributions of African Americans throughout history, and let's continue to work towards a future where diversity and empathy enrich every aspect of our society. #BlackHistoryMonth #OliverLewis #EmotionalIntelligence #Inclusivity #DiversityAndInclusion #Leadership

As part of Black History Month, we’re highlighting Charissa Newkirk, a protocol officer at NIWC Pacific. When asked what the observance month means to her, she spoke about representation. “In my line of work, I am usually the initial person a visitor meets, networks, and interacts with. “How I initiate and validate communication with others is professional, relatable, reliable, accurate, and honest. You ask what this means to me: it is important because of the ways and practices I am always willing to help. ‘Representation is vital otherwise the butterfly surrounded by a group of moths unable to see itself will keep trying to become the moth.’ – Rupi Kaur “It truly means a lot and makes a difference because as a leader no matter the culture, no matter the background, you represent something, and your sphere of influence can have a positive or negative affect. As we are the few but the mighty, I strive to be positive, influential, and inspiring, simply because representation matters.” We observe Black History Month each year in February to honor, celebrate, and educate on the contributions Black Americans have made to our country’s history and culture. February is #BlackHistoryMonth, a time to celebrate and honor the immeasurable contributions, both past and present, that African Americans have made to the United States. We want to recognize the importance of Black History Month, in solidarity and in appreciation of the African American community and our colleagues. Lawrence Group has a number of initiatives in place to support our DEIB efforts. Our Business Resource Groups (BRGs) are dedicated to supporting a positive internal and external culture, with teams dedicated to Inclusion, Recognition, and Engagement programming. Lawrence Group also maintains hiring goals to ensure a diverse pool of talent in our organization, with over 80% of our 2023 new hires representing diverse backgrounds. Beyond our internal initiatives, Lawrence Group provides extensive support to cultivate new and diverse talent within our industry. We are a diamond sponsor of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) HBCU development program. We are also a sponsor of Project Connect, an initiative to provide support and information for students from junior high to college who may be interested in the fields of architecture and design. By providing these resources, we aim to lower the barrier for entry to the field and embrace the possibilities that a truly diverse talent pool can offer. We understand the historic inequity in our industry and in our nation, and we are deeply committed to representing all members of our community in our work. While this month highlights Black Americans, our dedication to all underserved populations is unending. #BlackHistoryMonth2024 #DEIB #LawrenceGroup #Diversity #Equality #Architects #Architect #InteriorDesign #Design
