We are excited to announce that we have signed up to the Buy Social Pledge, an initiative run by Social Enterprise Scotland. By taking part in this initiative, it further reinforces our ongoing commitment to value community spirit and invest in the areas in which we work. As part of the partnership, we will have access to a wide selection of social enterprises across a host of sectors, who they can engage with to source services such as cleaning, signage, waste disposal and catering. Gayle O’Hear, Construction Administration Manager at The JR Group, said: “Aside from helping to meet the much-needed requirement of new homes in Scotland, housebuilding has far reaching positive consequences for the economy with a complex supply chain. “Signing up to the Buy Social Pledge helps us ensure that we’re having as positive an impact in communities across Scotland as we can, by working with businesses who are motivated by their social impact. “During each project, we already consider how local suppliers can be utilised and we commit to providing community benefits during the lifespan of the development. We look out for opportunities to offer support, whether that’s donating kit to sports clubs, enhancing community gardens, working with schools or community groups. “Many of our projects are completed on behalf of local authorities or housing associations to deliver affordable housing and homes available for social rent. The ethos of the Buy Social Pledge is a natural fit when bringing affordable homes to life and is the next step in our journey to making a positive impact in Scotland’s communities. It is a wonderful initiative which makes it easier to engage with social enterprise suppliers.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eFScYP_t #supportinglocal #buysocialpledge #construction #community

Housing cooperatives can be a promising approach offering an alternative to traditional home ownership and renting, especially in highly stressed housing markets such as Luxembourg. In addition, they can promote social inclusion and cohesion through shared living, especially when operating as a non-profit organisation like Adhoc. For more insights into the concept of housing cooperatives and the challenges they face, read our latest CIPU - Cellule d’Information pour la Politique Urbaine blog article based on an interview with Cedric Metz, President of Adhoc: https://lnkd.in/eK72eHQM

Neglected upgrades lead to high energy costs and closures. Community centers can negotiate with landlords, seek council pressure, and consider property ownership for grant opportunities and long-term sustainability. #CharityStruggles #EnergyEfficiency #CommunityCenters #CouncilNeglect #PropertyOwnership #Sustainability

At Jerram Falkus Construction Limited we are passionate about being good neighbours and this is something we strive to improve upon as each project progresses. Last month, we were delighted when our Roxwell Road project fantastic score with the Considerate Constructors Scheme – an improvement upon what were already exemplary records. The project is being led by Project Leader Peter Gaffey and Project Manager Mark Conway. We register each and every site with the scheme and Roxwell Road is described as an example of good practice across all aspects of the scheme. We have thoroughly engaged with the local community, supporting charities, local education facilities and businesses. Communication has remained a top priority with all stakeholders, with all media channels being used to ensure the public informed about the works and ongoing updates will continue. We consider each aspect of the works with regard to disruption and this can be mitigated as much as possible. We continue to engage positively with the community and have provided regular updates to our stakeholders. Much work has been undertaken with local groups and charities with further works planned by Social Value Manager, Alison Cormack. There is a positive approach to sustainability with company and site KPIs to reduce waste with a carbon neutral commitment plan in place. The workforce is supported with policies in place to promote both physical and mental wellbeing. Good welfare facilities are being provided with consideration for a work/life balance. Under our carbon reduction and net zero commitments waste has been carefully monitored and the use of materials is well controlled across the project. We will be planting many new trees and supporting biodiversity once the project nears completion. Well done team and lets keep going! #Construction #ConsiderateConstructors #CommunityEngagement #SustainableBuilding #ConstructionLife #GoodPractice #BuildingBetter

Affordable housing is a critical issue, and nonprofits are often at the forefront of finding solutions. But the road can be tough - limited funding, regulatory hurdles, and the complexity of delivering sustainable housing can slow progress. By fostering stronger partnerships, finding innovative ways to finance projects, and building up organizational capacity, nonprofits can create real, lasting impact. The key is collaboration and fresh thinking. #AffordableHousing #CommunityImpact #HousingForAll

The housing crisis in British Columbia is a serious issue, which is why we are excited to see the City of Vancouver simplifying the approvals process to streamline development timelines and reduce risk for social housing projects. Today, we’re supporting the latest report in The G15 Room to Grow campaign, which reveals the incredible benefits housing associations deliver to communities across the capital. ‘Room to Grow: Supporting London’s Communities’ highlights the £23 million created in ‘social value’ by G15 members’ social impact schemes. It features a summary of Southern Housing’s impressive community impact work in 2023/24. And a case study of the food pantry we’ve established in #Islington in conjunction with St Giles, the The Felix Project and fellow G15 member The Hyde Group. Many of these services were once provided by the state. But decades of cuts to services and community support programmes have seen not-for-profit housing associations stepping in to fill critical gaps. Urgent action from the Government is now needed to allow not-for-profit housing associations to continue to provide important community services. This includes: ✅ A 10-year rent settlement ✅ A return to rent fairness ✅ Access to the Building Safety Fund. 🔗 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eBamxaFi #SouthernHousing #UKHousing #LondonHousing #UKHousingAssociations #G15 #RoomToGrow #CommunityImpact #SocialImpact
