Los Angeles is facing one of the most catastrophic wildfire seasons in its history. Over 35,000 acres of land have been reduced to ash, and thousands of families have lost their homes, businesses, and livelihoods. Just one example of many of the devastations caused by Helene, for which similar stories across many states/communities (and for those impacted by previous disasters) 🙏❤️. And a story of a community (like so many) working together to help ESC other ❤️. Not a large city or major population center but equally important: Swannanoa, N.C To all the first responders and government/non-profit/other organizations helping: THANK YOU!! I also know that many of you were also impacted by the storms. To those impacted, help (I hope and expect) is there or coming soon RECOGNIZING that lives have been changed forever! And be reminded that the mental stress and needs, beyond the physical/damage challenges and needs, are real and also need help and support. For approved federal assistance go to: https://lnkd.in/edPC4VBe (hopefully you have access to electricity or online service). Also, local services available by state are included. Keeping everyone in our thoughts and prayers. https://lnkd.in/e7-XYGPZ

Practical advice in a blog post by Karin Knox on what to do if you have been impacted by the devastating fires in LA.
I’ve been heartbroken watching the wildfires devastate LA. My family and I lived through the Lahaina fires in 2023—losing everything, including our beautiful town, in just hours. I know firsthand how overwhelming it is to face the unimaginable. Now, 1.5 years later, we’re finding our footing and learning what it takes to rebuild. I’ve been sharing advice with friends affected by these fires and thought it might help others too. If you’ve lost your home, your business, or your sense of normal, here are a few things that I learned: - Evacuate early. Winds are erratic. You’ll never regret leaving too soon. - Find a safe place. Take time to get your bearings before making big life decisions. - Accept help. Let people show up for you—you’ll need them. The link to my full post is in the comments below. Rebuilding is a long journey, but it’s one you don’t have to face alone. It does get better. If you’re navigating this, know that you can do this. I am rooting for you. #WildfireRecovery #LahainaStrong #CommunitySupport #LAwildfire

California United: Honoring Our Wildfire Heroes and Standing Strong Together As California faces one of its most devastating wildfire seasons in history, we stand in solidarity with all those affected by the ongoing crisis. The Palisades and Eaton fires have already scorched over 37,000 acres, destroyed thousands of structures, and forced nearly 180,000 people to evacuate their homes. In these challenging times, we must come together as a community to support one another and express our deepest gratitude to the brave individuals on the front lines. To the more than 14,000 firefighters, first responders, and emergency personnel working tirelessly to combat these raging infernos: your courage and dedication are truly awe-inspiring. You risk your lives daily, battling exhaustion, intense heat, and unpredictable fire behavior to protect our communities and save lives. Your unwavering commitment in the face of such adversity is a testament to the human spirit. We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to the law enforcement officers, paramedics, and EMTs who are working around the clock to ensure public safety and provide critical medical assistance. Your efforts are invaluable in these trying times. To the National Guard members who have been deployed to support firefighting efforts and protect evacuated areas: your service is crucial in this time of need. Your presence brings comfort and security to those who have been forced to leave their homes behind. As we face the prospect of continued dangerous fire weather conditions, let us remember that we are stronger together. To those who have opened their homes to evacuees, donated supplies, or volunteered their time: your compassion and generosity embody the true spirit of California. In these difficult times, let us continue to support one another and show our appreciation for those who put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Together, we will overcome this challenge and emerge stronger as a community. #CaliforniaStrong #ThankYouFirstResponders #WildfireHeroes #CommunitySupport #CaliforniaWildfires #Solidarity

Help is needed in the areas hit by Hurricane Helene—the right kind of help. Some logistics and transportation professionals have been forgetting the basics, like trip and route planning. This has resulted in trucks blocking needed accessways. The situation on the ground remains fluid, with road and possible routes changing daily. GPS cannot be relied on. If you are dispatching help. be sure to plan ahead and coordinate your efforts with someone in the area before venturing out. Remember the special ops mantra: One is none and two is one. Have a backup or contingency plan for routes, fuel, and overnight stays. Some areas have limited access or even bands of thieves hijacking helpers. #HurricaneHelene https://lnkd.in/gtcznm96
