Today, we’re inspired to shine a spotlight on the remarkable Azizah al-Hibri, a pioneering scholar and advocate for justice and equality. Her tireless efforts in the fields of law, feminism, and Islamic jurisprudence have left an indelible mark on our world. Born in Philadelphia in 1943, she earned her B.A. and later her law degree from UPenn, where she was the editor of the Law Review. Throughout her career, al-Hibri has been a vocal proponent of women's rights within the context of Islamic law and culture. In 1993, she founded KARAMAH: Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights, an organization dedicated to promoting the rights of Muslim women through education, legal advocacy, and leadership development. Her contributions extend beyond academia; she has served on various international human rights commissions and advisory boards, working to advance women's rights and interfaith dialogue. Azizah's work embodies the essence of intersectionality, weaving together threads of feminism, Islam, and human rights to champion inclusivity and empowerment. Her dedication to bridging cultural divides and promoting understanding is truly commendable.
