Absolutely this!!! Eight years of teaching and training DI - I have lost count of the success stories, but there is still no better feeling than watching failing, despondent students start to realise their potential. Seeing them discover a more confident, positive approach to learning is worth more than any paycheck! Any child can be taught and will be successful, but only if DI is implemented with fidelity and efficacy. If you have children/students/learners with a deficit in English or maths, you really won't find a more highly researched and field-tested solution than DI. National Institute for Direct Instruction
For over 50 years, Direct Instruction (DI) has empowered educators to deliver learning experiences proven to transform students at all levels into highly skilled and confident learners. Dr. Mary Eisele, VP of Intervention at McGraw Hill School, shares a few ways DI can accelerate growth. https://mhed.us/3DTN5ZY #Education #Teaching

"The recent events worldwide have brought about some stark realities in the education system. One of the most significant concerns that have come to light is the impact of standardized testing on the school curriculum and student learning. The pressure to perform well on these tests has often led to a narrowed focus on rote memorization and recall, resulting in a lack of emphasis on more complex problem-solving skills and critical thinking." #OutofBoxThinking #EducationCurriculum #StandardizedTesting #CreativeTeaching #InnovativeLearning #CriticalThinking #ProblemSolving #RealWorldSkills #StudentEngagement #ModernEducation #MexitNews

The Lifelong Impact of Instruction: Shaping Lives Beyond the Classroom Embedding Lessons That Last a Lifetime The profound message of Proverbs 4:13, "Hold on to instruction, do not let it go; guard it well, for it is your life," serves as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of education. This article reflects on the deep-rooted influence that instruction has on shaping an individual's life, both personally and professionally, and the pivotal role teachers play in this transformative process. 1. Education as a Foundation for Life Choices At its core, education is more than just the acquisition of knowledge and skills. It forms the bedrock upon which individuals build their lives. The lessons imparted in the classroom extend far beyond academic content; they include critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and the ability to navigate complex social dynamics. Teachers, through their instruction, have the unique opportunity to influence the decision-making processes of their students, shaping how they approach challenges and opportunities. This responsibility underscores the profound impact teachers have in guiding students towards making informed, thoughtful life choices. 2. Cultivating Worldviews and Opening Doors to Opportunities Instruction in the classroom doesn't just fill minds with facts; it opens hearts and eyes to different perspectives and possibilities. Teachers play a crucial role in expanding students' horizons, exposing them to diverse ideas, cultures, and ways of thinking. This broadening of perspectives is essential in cultivating well-rounded, empathetic individuals who can thrive in a globalized world. Furthermore, the skills and knowledge gained through education often directly influence the opportunities available to individuals, shaping their professional paths and personal growth. By providing quality education, teachers are essentially unlocking doors to future possibilities for their students. 3. Instruction as a Catalyst for Lifelong Learning Lastly, viewing instruction as "your life" emphasizes the importance of fostering a lifelong love for learning. Teachers have the ability to ignite a passion for continuous discovery and growth in their students. This passion for learning transcends the classroom, encouraging individuals to continually seek knowledge, adapt to change, and grow throughout their lives. The role of a teacher, therefore, extends beyond the present moment, leaving a lasting imprint on the future trajectory of their students' lives. I’m starting to see the teacher posts (not my school) about needing funding for TPT to have access to resources to differentiate in their classroom for “diverse learners.” I would love the opportunity to talk with teachers to find what’s missing in the resources they have. How do they know they will need other materials? What has worked in the past? What hasn’t? How do those resources support standards and learning progressions? I think the requests have positive intent but in the big picture create gaps, the materials are unvetted and can contain harmful stereotypes or misalignment to district values. We have been very successful at #CrestView with this with grade banded PLTs, site coaching, in house PD, and a strong instructional leader. How are teachers in other districts supported at the site level to ensure equitable experiences and alignment?
