Kudos to Lisa Robinson, field specialist in regional economic development, for hosting a successful Regional Economic Development Summit in Mt. Vernon last week. The program, 'Improving the Economic Well-being of Your Citizens,' brought together city and county representatives, non-profit organizations, civic leaders, business owners, and individuals. Attendees explored tools and resources to help them achieve targeted goals for their communities. This is how we serve Missouri and deliver Mizzou! Thrive Thursday - Sharing the Goal 🥅 “At last the wall was completed to half its height around the entire city, for the people had worked with enthusiasm.” – Nehemiah 4:6 🧱 On your team, what are the shared goals? For families, it may be smoothly running a home. For businesses, it may be making a profit. For charitable organizations, it may be improving its communities. The important thing is that the team has defined its shared goal and that each individual is equipped to perform their role (Do NOT underestimate the importance of equipping your players). A baseball team has nine defensive positions on the field. Football teams have 11 positions on the field at a time. The players on an athletic team don’t all perform the same tasks, but to be successful, they must have the same goal. That was also true when Nehemiah and the people rebuilt the wall around Jerusalem. Some rebuilt gates, some carried materials, and others stood guard. The individuals had separate tasks, but they were united in their bigger picture goal – to make their city safe again. If we want harmony in our relationships, if we want success on our teams, if we want progress in our communities – then we must each do our part of the work while being focused on the same goal. “Individual commitment to a group effort – that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” – Vince Lombardi 🏆

I find when Founders have misconceptions about nonprofits and grant writing, they make some serious mistakes. When I was writing grants, these were the mistakes Founders made and the misconceptions that led to those mistakes. Understanding these misconceptions is the first step in not making the same mistakes.

"Oftentimes, we do incremental things that actually disrupt our ability to be able to get to justice. And we say, well, since justice is so far out, or justice isn’t possible, then it doesn’t matter, we just need to take this win in the near term. And that can’t happen anymore. We have to be able to orient our day-to-day work, even if it’s small, on a path to justice, and make those hard choices in this near term that sometimes we have to make in order to adhere to that principle of justice and not take the easy win. Or, if we do take the easy win, acknowledge what we’ve done, because now we’ve created another thing that has to be undone." About the author Peggy Bailey Peggy Bailey is vice president for housing and income security at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities based in Washington, DC. https://lnkd.in/egfPrTZY

KEYNOTE SPEAKER | VISIONARY | WORKSHOP LEADER Enhancing Organizational Leadership, Productivity, Retention & Growth Expert in Human Behavior, Leadership & Consciousness
For my Friends in the DC Metro area: Imagine the anguish of a parent who wants nothing more than for their child to be understood, accepted, and given the same opportunities as others. For so many families, finding a place where their child’s unique needs are not just met, but embraced, feels impossible. The National Children's Center (NCC) has been a beacon of hope for these families for 65 years. It’s where children who were once isolated and misunderstood found a community that saw their potential and celebrated their progress. Yet, the journey to this place of acceptance is often filled with pain. The pain of watching a child struggle in environments not built for them. The pain of feeling like you’re always fighting an uphill battle to ensure they receive the support they need. And for some, the heartbreaking realization that their child may never have the opportunities that others take for granted. But NCC offers something rare: a place where these battles don’t have to be fought alone. It’s a sanctuary where families find the support, understanding, and resources they need to help their children flourish. This gala is more than just a celebration of 65 years; it’s a reminder of all the work that still needs to be done, of the countless children who still need that sanctuary. By supporting NCC, you’re not just attending an event—you’re giving hope to families who need it the most. You’re helping to build a future where every child, no matter their abilities, can thrive. Join us in making that future a reality. Learn more about the gala and how you can help. https://lnkd.in/ebEFRAwg
