The Bridge of Connections; You are not alone In a world where professionals roamed like islands, disconnected and alone, five visionaries had a dream. Reid Hoffman, Lee Hower, Konstantin Guericke, Eric Lee, and Jean-Luc Vaillant imagined a bridge that would connect these islands, fostering a community where individuals could share their stories, showcase their skills, and support one another. Their bridge began as a simple platform, where professionals could create profiles, sharing their experiences and expertise. But as the bridge grew, it evolved into a vibrant ecosystem, teeming with connections, conversations, and collaborations. Today, their bridge is known as LinkedIn, a global network of professionals, over 900 million members, spanning every industry and continent. On Tuesday, 3 December, we were thrilled to support Westhaven Ltd by engaging the incredible Matt Formston as their special guest speaker for their virtual event, attended by approximately 1,000 team members. FIX THE ROOF WHILE THE SUN SHINES This is a great metaphor for building your network. We all know that in our personal and business life things happen that create unforeseen challenges. At these times we often feel isolated and don't always know what to do or who to turn to. So when everything in you life is hunky dory and the future looks predictable and bright (the sun is shining on you), that's the time to invest in building and nurturing your network and give back to those that could benefit from your success. The time when you can bank those favours that you may need to call in when the unexpected happens - which it inevitably will. At GlobalWelsh we encourage this behaviour but too often our advice is ignored resulting in our help being sort when it's TOO LATE. This is most acute when a business is running out of money and need to quickly raise funds. Sadly unless you have built those long term trusting relationships the chances of this occurring, on acceptable terms, is extremely remote. So if you want a sustainable, successful career or business, continually invest in your network and when you need that help or support they will be there for you.
