On Monday, our new Research Officer Laura Mallis attended online training run by Snap Surveys. The interesting and insightful course covered questionnaire design, with helpful guidance on: · creating engaging surveys ☑️ · setting different question and response types ☑️ · survey routing ☑️ We regularly use Snap - recent examples include our survey of stakeholders as part of scoping work to develop a mental health patient experience survey for The Scottish Government, a questionnaire in the final stages of our application of the Delphi methodology exploring substance use harm prevention for Public Health Scotland, and a survey of further and higher education institutes who have adopted the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers Quality Assurance Mark. We're looking forward to applying learning from the course in our surveys throughout 2025 and beyond!

Dear colleagues, parents, PDA-ers, friends, and family: On SATURDAY 8TH June we are hosting the first in our collaborative workshop series, and we have named it ENGAGING THE NERVOUS SYSTEM TO 'FLOW' - LIVING AND LEARNING WITH 'PDA'. 'PDA'/'EDA' information is just an online search away. We are inundated with experts whose wisdom we can digest and apply. So why does that experience highlight what we DON'T know? What I have learnt from collaborators - from families, adults, children, and 'not so much children anymore", as well as clinicians and other professionals, tells me that families, parents, 'people' and professionals - don't need standard training as much as to share, and digest, experience. In this first workshop collaboration, we will together shape our context and content through the journeys of people working and living with, PDA. 'What are the limits of our knowledge about PDA now?" "Are you stuck with some of the things that I am stuck with?" "What does this knowledge mean in the here and now of our lives - and our child's life?" "Where are family-practitioners / practitioners/clinicians moving now in their understandings of why, and what they do? "Why??" "What's certain?" "What's in doubt?" "Do our frameworks, theories and advice really stack up?" 'What does work and why? / and where and how does it work?" "What doesn't work for you?" "What do you think you want to learn, find or even change?" "How can we socialise the benefits and moments of learning that constitute the beginning of hope?" It takes all sorts for learning and new lessons to be created, and for hope to be invited - or found, when lost. So, the collaboration workshops process beginning on the 8th of June is not routine training on "the stuff you know with updates". This is hopefully the first in a workshop process in which we will shape the contexts and content together, share the experiences and journeys of adults, children, clinicians, schools and families -- along with other perspectives that help us. The intent is for fully participative and safe conversations in response to the 'demands', doubts, interrogations, experiences, issues ans questions that have accumulated, and that have been brought to all of these forums. Attendees will in any event have take-away materials summarizing current states of knowledge here and abroad. And we will, together, do our best to together, shape and inform practice and knowledge 'demand and focus' as a shared outcome for the group- including opportunities for all to join and participate in the future. I really would appreciate and value your learnings and experience. And if you can't come, please do send your questions, suggestions and input. - Ben Truter, Clinical Psychologist and Director at The Neurodiversity Centre. Why not take one of our courses on how to implement national standards available on our Learning Hub? We strive to support health and social care professionals to continuously develop and to improve their service through the development of national standards and support materials. These courses were created in collaboration with people using health and social care services, advocates, staff providing care and support, and inspectors of health and social care services. We developed our national standards by using the feedback we received in focus group discussions with people who use health and social care services, people who support them, advocates, and through public consultation. Together, the standards and the courses aim to improve people’s experience of health, mental health and social care services across Ireland. Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/euuiTj7N
