Nithya Ruff’s post on the topic is an excellent reminder of how far we have come in the domain of open source. OpenChain Project has always worked to build the process management infrastructure behind a trusted open source supply chain. One thing that may be of interest beyond our ISO standards for open source license compliance and security assurance is our work to demystify regulatory activity. You can check out our recent EU policy series here, covering CRA, AI Act and the Product Liability Directive: https://lnkd.in/gBhT9GKA

A few takeaways on my first day at the UKSG Conference. 📕 Just in general, there is lots being done both at library levels and publisher levels but there’s still so much to do. 📙 There needs to be clearer guidelines on a variety of things; transitional agreements, how to be responsible researchers, article retractions etc., though guidelines are being discussed. 📘 Companies like Project COUNTER, DOAJ and Stichting OA Switchboard need both libraries and publishers support. 📗 OA will be a core part of libraries over the years and there are things publishers can do to make things clearer and easy to use. 👟 Oh and comfy shoes are a must (but I think that’s conferences in general) #UKSG2024 #OpenAccess #Libraries #Conference

"Access to and preservation of scientific information in Europe: 2023 report on the implementation of the Commission Recommendation 2018/790" from the #EuropeanUnion includes a section on national policies on #opensource #software. It notes that: "Although the Recommendation recognises that open science policies should cover all research outputs from all phases of the research life cycle (data, publications, software, methods, protocols, etc), it does not include a specific section or provisions dedicated to open-source software. The EOSC 2022 survey includes a relevant question investigating whether countries have established policies supporting software sharing and re-use. Results show that six Member States have a #national open-source software #policy, although none made it mandatory (Table 21). Finland has a national policy for open-source software for public sector, but not for #research. Estonia is planning a similar policy. The Research Council of Norway’s open science policy also touches on open-source software, but it is not part of a dedicated policy.” https://lnkd.in/g8evQWk3 #researchsoftware
