✧ Communications Expert • Creative and Collaborative Problem Solver • Silo Dissolver ➤➤ Marketing & Communications Consultant helping mission-driven organizations achieve their goals
To meet the needs of our communities, #nonprofits need to be crystal clear about their goals and support staff to build capacity to get there. This article breaks it down into three simple concepts: 1- Mobilize to a clear purpose. If you haven't answered your "why," now is the time. This means it's time to stop chasing shiny objects or board pet projects. 2- Help people at all levels have the autonomy to make decisions. Frontline staff can contribute to problem-solving with information that is invisible to management. Seek out that knowledge and empower staff. 3- Find ways to build a culture of belonging and learning. This is hard work. People need to feel seen, valued, and important.

If you are a current nonprofit employee, consider taking the SISR survey. By sharing your experience, you provide valuable insight to a movement dedicated to improving the nonprofit sector.
I'm obsessed with nonprofit staff retention. And I have good reason... because nonprofiteers tell us there's a problem. One way they tell us is through the Social Impact Staff Retention Project (SISR), which launched last year. Through it, Michelle Flores Vryn, CFRE and I ask nonprofiteers if they're looking for new jobs and why (or why not). And now we're back with SISR 2.0. Early findings this year show something disappointing but not surprising: 20 percent of nonprofiteers are rarely fulfilled in their work. Have five people on your team or in your organization? Can you point to the one who's disconnected? (Spoiler: it's not the one who just entered the workforce.) Have 3 minutes? Participate in this year's SISR and help us collect good, useable, anonymous, FREE data to share with the field. Link, comments!

Why jump ship to another? In the nonprofit sector, employees may depart due to factors like burnout, limited resources, stagnant career growth, or a misalignment of values. To delve into these dynamics, check out "The Happy, Healthy Nonprofit" by Beth Kanter and Aliza Sherman, or "Nonprofit Management 101" by Darian Rodriguez Heyman for valuable insights. Academic journals like the "Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly" are excellent resources for research on nonprofit employee retention. #NonprofitManagement #EmployeeRetention #professionaldevelopment

Account Manager | Client advocate | Sales | Helping organizations find creative solutions and have greater impact in the world.
I spent a lot of time in my career with nonprofits hearing their challenges and helping them to find creative solutions. Training and engagement is key to so many nonprofit's employee and volunteer experiences. Actually, I'd argue it's mission critical, especially for organizations that heavily rely on volunteers to support program delivery at home or abroad! Everything from the modality of delivery, to course material, to issuing awards and badges (not just for completion but to create an engaging learner journey) are important considerations as nonprofits do everything they can to fight staff and volunteer burnout, fatigue, and bounce back from engagement decline brought on by COVID-19. If you are a nonprofit leader that hasn't heard about how D2L is empowering organizations to deliver better learning experiences, check out this article about our growing footprint and client roster: https://lnkd.in/gqB8yFir If you're curious to learn more, send me a DM or reach out to Bill Sheehan! #impact #generosity #LifeatD2L #learning #volunteerism #nonprofit #education #volunteers #dogood
