Today's "Connecting Counties" event was a first - experimenting with the Group Photo app for Zoom, I think the "3rd time lucky" adage was about right! The purpose of the event is to get to know the attendees better and find out more about their personality, so, attendees were paired up and invited to ask each other the following questions and use the answers to introduce the other person, to the group. 1. Describe your role/job as if you were talking to a 5 year old child 2. What is your biggest achievement in business? 3. What’s the best gif you’ve ever received? The answers to the first question were great – ranging from "juggling" and "giving gold stars to clients", to "getting extra pocket money"; we knew exactly what each did from those explanations! I enjoy these sessions immensely! I feel that I’ve known a number of the Catena Network members for many years now, but there’s still the opportunity to learn something new! Miranda Thomas shared something she’d not revealed before (we were sworn to secrecy!) and another person revealed that their best gift was a Derby County season ticket (they’ve remained anonymous for their own safety!) I see, hear and read the word "hope." I believe in hope. I am a hopeful person. Hope is not a strategy when it comes to connecting with your constituents, clients and customers and securing the end game you are seeking. The gift. The effective volunteer time. The sale. The long-term partnership. The repeat business. We hoped he would be more involved. We hoped she would do more. We hoped he would be inspired by being a volunteer. We hoped she would like our product and want to invest. Be hopeful but be effective. Tell your story upfront. What do you need? How can you together solve a problem/meet a challenge? Listen to who they are and what they want -- and meet them there. Hope has its place and time. It's not here.
