Now begins our favorite way to countdown the year. Last night, we went to Rudolph the Musical. Tavie did her makeup and gave herself freckles that kinda made her look like a reindeer, so it was perfect. It was super cute and NOW means we need to watch the cartoon movie 'cause nostalgia. I also had two lessons and wrote a blog around their school lessons before we went. How are you kickin' off December?? #kickoff #nostalgia #funandfamily #goodtimes #mompreneurs #momsinbusiness #businessmoms #itsbeginningtolookalotlikechristmas

One of my favorite lines from the musical Hamilton is when Burr says to Hamilton “talk less, smile more.” So many of us have a tendency to overexplain, to give more information than is necessary, and to talk to fill what we think will be an awkward silence. Next time you’re in a conversation, try Burr’s advice - talk less and smile more. State your case, and then stop. Give the other party time to process. Don’t rush to fill in the conversation. The silence always seems longer to us than to them. #ProTip #EffectiveCommunication #SayLess #SitWithTheSilence #LeadershipSkills #ExecutiveCoaching #ProfessionalGrowth

When Does Your Organization Sitzprobe? It’s a weird word. I didn't know what it was until I was preparing a 30th anniversary podcast of Disney on Broadway. Lots of organizational lessons through the years with that organization—or with “show business” in general. The word actually comes more from operatic settings, but it can be used with musicals, or simply any organization. It's a seated rehearsal where the singers sing for the first time with the orchestra, focusing attention on integrating the two groups. The accompanying video shows a great example of a Sitzprobe that occurred when the musical "Newsies" first came together. They don’t always sit, but there’s lots of “sitzprobe”. Plenty of energy, excitement, and talent--all coming together. So when does your organization “Sitzprobe”? I mention this because just last week I heard a director discuss the difficulty in pulling together a new group formed from some organizational change everyone was surprised with. My recommendation was to identify a time--and not on zoom--where everyone can come together and in an informal way, “Sitzprobe”. I like the "sitting" metaphor because it lends itself to everyone being on an equal plane. And the setting itself is one where everyone figures out how to come together. It’s so needed in organizations today, where people are too remote or just virtual in relationships and in attaining the results they seek. So ask yourself, when do you find the time to do a Sitzprobe? And do you have to wait until some massive change for you to come together and informally connect with one another. Build relationships, learn from each other, and most importantly, harmonize! Harmony. We really need so much more of it in most organizations. Let’s all “Sitzprobe”!
