Since we launched our program in 2021, we have had 528 conversations related to child sexual abuse prevention through our anonymous chatline and helpline. Of those who reach out, 48% have never spoken to a professional about their concerns. The most commonly identified barriers to accessing help are related to stigma, lack of information about available resources, and lack of support. The good news is, a lot of these conversations lead to productive support, reduction in distress and strategies to move forward. Learn more about our program: talkingforchange.ca.

Lucy Faithfull Foundation and it's wonderful Chief Executive Deborah Denis are hosting a very important conference next month in Birmingham: 🖊 Hear a frontline, expert perspective on how framing services, interventions, actions and projects within a public health approach to preventing child sexual abuse can have a big impact on protecting children from harm. 🖌 Learn how the trends are changing, the methods used by people who offend, and what new initiatives are out there to tackle the problems. 🖍 Discuss practical examples of prevention in action including tips based on lessons from real initiatives that are having an impact on children and young people, families, professionals, and those who pose a sexual risk to children. ❓ Who should attend? Everyone raising awareness, preventing, responding or disrupting the crime of child exploitation, including: - local authorities - policing and law enforcement organisations - health professionals - youth justice - third sector - sport and leisure - foster and residential homes commercial business

📣 Studies indicate that only about 38% of children who experience sexual abuse actually come forward to share their experiences. Among those who do speak up, a significant 40% confide in a close friend instead of an adult or authority figure. Unfortunately, these "friend-to-friend" conversations often don’t lead to formal reports. As a result, the overwhelming majority of child sexual abuse cases remain unreported. This silence means that both survivors and offenders frequently miss out on critical services for healing and accountability. 💔 The importance of open communication cannot be overstated; it could make all the difference in ensuring support for victims and justice for perpetrators.
