Pakistan's education crisis has hit a critical point. And we need to act fast. *39% children* of school-going age in Pakistan are not in school. We cannot sit back and watch as poverty deprives them of a better life. With a quality education, these children can rewrite their futures. But they can't do it without champions like you. You can hold their hands and lead them to school - a place where teachers, books, and the joy of learning are waiting to light up their world with possibilities. Please make education a priority and educate children with your *Zakat*. Let's give our children a bright present and a promising future they deserve.

Hope for Education. Education is in crisis around the world. The big blows from COVID 19, protracted armed conflict, deep budget cuts and rising poverty mean that millions of children may never return to school. The huge promise of education - to shape peaceful, just and sustainable furures must be kept alive. To effectively deliver this promise, education itself must be transformed. I want to be part of the stakeholders that are #ReimaginingEducation #RaisingMyHand for education and louding that #EducationCannotWait. I commit to do my part to ensure the world’s children have access to free, inclusive, equitable and quality education. I have a quiz everyone! 🏋️ It’s just 5 simple questions and to help with a little expo, I’ll give out the answer to the 3rd one 😃 Here goes: 1. Name 7 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa 🤔 2. In which country is the oldest desert in the world located?😕 3. Which world leader is quoted to have said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world…"? So, the answer to the 3rd question is… the great Nelson Mandela! And while you’re still grappling with the first 2 questions😉, also consider these important facts -   Education, according to the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary, is a process of teaching, training, and learning, especially in schools or colleges, to improve knowledge and develop skills. Sustainable Development Goal Number 4 seeks to “...ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”. This then means that education is a basic human right and can lift both men and women out of poverty, level inequalities and bring sustainable development. However, according to UNESCO, 244 Million children globally are still not in school. 98 Million of these are from Sub-Saharan Africa of which 33 Million are of primary school age. Sub-Saharan Africa is the poorest region in the world, but Every Village Matters views education as one of the most potent tools for bringing the many excluded children and adults from this region out of poverty and a springboard to other fundamental human rights. 4th question: Do you agree? Senate seeks new strategies to tackle of out-of-school children menace The Senate has urged the Federal Ministry of Education and its agencies, as well as other stakeholders to jointly evolve new strategies to effectively deal with issue of out-of-school children in Nigeria. #Senateseeksnewstrategiestotackleofoutofschoolchildrenmenace

John’s visit of Our School in Pakistan: We would like to share an update from John Symons, who visited Pakistan and provided us with an insightful report on the school there: "I was deeply impressed by the dedication of Gulbina, the Head, and her husband Afzal, a Presbyterian pastor, who work tirelessly to serve the underprivileged community in Lahore. Despite facing challenges, they are committed to providing quality education. I also commend the dedication of two teachers, Miss Krishma and Mr. Pervaiz, who have served the school for 10 years despite receiving low salaries. They are invaluable assets to the school. The school's top-class students are preparing for public exams, and we hope they will achieve great results like previous years. However, the school is facing several needs: Post-COVID, the school's enrolment has decreased significantly. We pray for a significant increase in new pupils signing up in March/April. In addition to teachers' salaries, there are other expenses such as government registration fees, exam-centre fees and mosquito spraying costs etc. The low teacher salaries remain a concern, as the minimal school fees from impoverished families are insufficient to cover all expenses. Eighty years ago, some visionaries in Sri Lanka (then Ceylon), led by Dr. C. W. W. Kannangara, proposed an ambitious policy of Free Education all the way to university because they believed that a child’s access to education should not depend on their family’s wealth and status. They were more egalitarian than the Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaimed 5 years later, which only called for Elementary education to be free. But the elites of that era wanted to retain the status quo, where their children could receive a good education in private schools while the hoi polloi received, for free, only the education they needed to serve the elites well. That is why education in this country has been underfunded for decades. The Year 5 scholarship examination is an absolute abomination that enables this underfunding to continue, because it allows the state to pretend that it provides good education to the children who really deserve it and absolves them of the responsibility of investing in improving education for every child. And it reinforces the very privilege it is supposed to eliminate! It’s not just about being able to afford tuition classes - children in underprivileged families may be malnourished; may miss school due to period poverty, lack of transport facilities and insufficient access to medical care; may have to do more house-work and child-care to support their family; may have less access to books and the internet, and so many more reasons - but the exam will just show that they didn’t “deserve” the scholarship! At Kinder Republic, we only offer scholarships based on Financial need. Because we believe that education is the right of EVERY CHILD, not only the ones who have “potential”.

It's heartbreaking to witness the continued denial of education to girls in Afghanistan for the third consecutive year. Education is a fundamental human right, and the closure of school doors to girls is a betrayal by the international community. We have failed to uphold basic principles of human rights in Afghanistan, leaving girls deprived of opportunities for growth, empowerment, and a better future. The impact of this denial is far-reaching, affecting not only the current generation of girls but also the future of Afghanistan. Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and empowering communities. It is essential for building a peaceful and prosperous society. As advocates for human rights and education, it is our responsibility to speak out against this injustice. We must urge the international community to take immediate action to ensure that all girls in Afghanistan have access to quality education.
