Doing one thing well. An inspiring project that is set to transform Rotterdam's cultural landscape, Het Danshuis is an ambitious initiative, led by Droom en Daad and designed by the innovative MAD Architects, aims to convert the historic Provimi warehouse into a dynamic hub for all things dance. Here are a few reasons why this project caught our attention: 1. Economic and Cultural Impact: It's well-documented that specialised cultural centres can significantly boost local economies by drawing in people and fostering community engagement. 2. Regenerative: The repurposing of historical buildings for cultural purposes not only preserves architectural heritage but also revitalises this urban areas. This project is a perfect example of how creative industries are key to breathing new life into our cities. 3. Community Benefits: Dedicated dance facilities provide inclusive spaces that encourage artistic expression, physical activity, and community participation. We had a fantastic time at #LLFF2024 ! It was once again a great Forum for creative lighting: continuing our journey & reflecting the history, evolutions and impacts of light festivals. A few thoughts gathered : 🌟Light festivals are crucial moments in the life of a city : vital to get together as citizens, with festive and integrative moments in the public space. They are vital to grow a positive identity, explore new urban territories and transform frontiers into bridges, foster creativity, cultural and economic development. 👉 We need the #CreativeLighting ecosystem : light artists, festival curators, city elected officials and city departments organising light festivals, and more! to keep thinking together on some of the key questions of the field : 👉 How do we make our light festivals more sustainable ? eco-design methods are possible for cultural events, that take into account all planetary boundaries, starting of course with carbon footprint calculations (but it's not enough). In a world of permanent crisis, where budgets for creation and culture are threatened, how can we demonstrate the value - societal, cultural and economic - of light festivals, and start a comprehensive evaluation approach ? What other main questions might be on your mind ? #LUCInetwork #UrbanLighting #LightArt
🌟 Check out the Highlights of #LLFF2024! 👉https://lnkd.in/eaKvVAir From December 5 to 6, the Lyon Light Festival Forum, co-organised by LUCI Association and Ville de Lyon, welcomed over 170 participants from 19 countries, including 21 cities officially represented. 🌍 A diverse gathering of city representatives, festival organisers, artists, designers, and experts came together to discuss the History, Evolutions, and Impacts of Light Festivals. 🏆 We also honoured cities that have excelled in implementing innovative projects aimed at improving sustainability and quality of life through urban lighting, during a festive Cities & Lighting Awards Ceremony! 🙏 A heartfelt thank you to all the participants, speakers, venues, and everyone who contributed to the success of the 2024 edition of LLFF! #LUCInetwork #UrbanLighting #CreativeLighting #LightArt #LyonLightFestivalForum

Such a simple and poetic installation 🌿☔️
'Uncovered Skies' by aircord inc. and nendo for the Suntory Museum of Art. As visitors walk upon a 15 meter long illuminated stage holding specially-made umbrellas, they notice underneath their legs that images appear on the floor and change as they move around the stage. The images on the floor represent the sky through the changing seasons in time and weather; the cherry blossom in spring, falling leaves in autumn and snow blowing in the air through the cold winter. 📍 Roppongi district, Tokyo The setup of this exhibited work relies on an optical phenomenon that occurs, through light from a projector in which the polarizing filter has been removed, combined with a polarizing filter stretched on an umbrella. A new experience is created, exactly opposite to everyday life in which the sky, normally hidden by opening an umbrella, comes into view. #interactive #exhibition #immersive #newmediaart
