Three highlights from our review of Us by Night, a creative 'night market' of innovation, inspiration, and community. 1. Festival experience and atmosphere Us by Night (UBN5) offers a vibrant, immersive experience, transforming Antwerp's Waagnatie venue into a creative 'festival night market' with stages, pop-up shops and energetic spaces such as the central dance area. The setting on the banks of the River Scheldt, combined with the artistic atmosphere inside, created a unique atmosphere, although not all the installations were equally impressive. 2. Diverse and powerful content The festival featured a wide range of creative professionals, from seasoned artists like Helmut Smits to emerging talents like photographer Stig de Block and technologist Vera van de Seyp. While the talks were varied and mostly engaging, the standard keynote format sometimes lacked depth. However, some presentations, such as From Form's, managed to provide an inspiring behind-the-scenes journey that resonated with the audience. 3. Community and creative growth Beyond its impressive content, UBN5 fostered a strong sense of community. The festival is not only a platform for creative work, but also a place where personal and professional connections flourish. The success of the new app also shows that UBN is evolving and staying relevant in its mission to bring the creative world together. Briefing on Festival CoQ On June 14, 2024, I organized a meeting with all archery members to discuss our participation in the upcoming Festival CoQ, scheduled for June 22, 2024. While some members couldn't attend due to class schedules, they planned to watch the meeting recording later due to the task distribution at hand. This year's festival theme, 'Sustainable Campus,' focuses on promoting eco-friendly practices. As part of our participation, we will set up a booth to showcase bows and arrows in the hall. To efficiently manage tasks, we divided members into four groups: Photography, Activity, Design, and Logistics. Each group was assigned specific responsibilities. We also planned a small activity outside the booth where students can engage in archery for a fee (RM 1 for one arrow and RM 5 for six arrows). Although details may evolve, this initial plan was agreed upon during our meeting. Reflecting on our discussion, I am confident that the Festival CoQ will go off without any trouble, just like our other well-run community projects. I expect few problems, and I think our hardworking staff can handle any obstacles that come up.

Yesterday someone compared curating REMIX London to crafting a mixtape. Remember the days of meticulously choosing and recording every song - painstakingly perfecting the flow, the atmosphere, the message, the order, the timings, the purpose? The difficult decisions around what to include and what to leave out - even though you love them! We choose to curate just a single stage for the two days of REMIX to create moments of real serendipity - it's an increasingly rare opportunity to hear lots of talks from outside our comfort zones. People, ideas and topics that we usually wouldn't be exposed to. REMIX is not a museums conference, a tech conference, an immersive conference, an arts and wellbeing conference, a placemaking conference, a social enterprise conference... it's the best of all of these and much more, rolled into one. As each of these creative disciplines becomes more incredible and expansive, our job of weaving the connections and joining new dots becomes much more complex. But I firmly believe that's where the real magic truly happens. When the sparks begin, our 'Follow the Speaker' format allows for much deeper, more intimate conversations. The hundreds of new collaborations born from these last 12 years of REMIX is testament to the sheer power of these serendipitous, creative collisions. Long live the mixtape! https://lnkd.in/ewr_8Whq

The Telegraph writes about the cutting-edge methods used to optimise acoustics for concert halls, with Turku Music Hall Fuuga as a case example. Acoustics comes first in the design of the 1,300-seat concert hall through our close collaboration with Professor Tapio Lokki of the Aalto University acoustics lab, our acoustics designers Akukon Ltd and Kahle Acoustics, and musicians. Careful studies and testing enable us to take acoustics needs optimally into consideration already in the design phase. As Prof Lokki explains, the best halls "rely not on amplified sound but on the careful arrangement of materials and surfaces, convex and concave, to direct sound around the room. Architecture shapes sound so that – ideally – it reverberates in the same way no matter where you are sitting in the hall." I was just looking back at a picture of my desk - scattered with the blueprint of the Rotonda by La Mobiliare festival venue and my festival pass - and it hit me again: the magic of turning a sketch into a space where over 115,000 visitors gather, celebrate, and create memories. Festival planning isn’t just about stages, soundchecks, and artist lineups. It’s about flow. How do people move through the space? Where do they linger? What captures their attention? These questions keep you up at night - and then fuel your coffee-driven mornings. In the case of Rotonda, it wasn’t just about music. It was 18 days of international bands, kids' programs, club nights, 12 bars, and an expansive food area, all stitched together seamlessly into an experience that felt both grand and personal. Looking back, I’m reminded of three key lessons every event planner should keep in mind: 1️⃣ Every square meter matters: A few centimeters on paper can mean bottlenecks or smooth crowd flow in reality. 2️⃣ Flexibility is everything: Plans change, weather happens, and artists have preferences you never imagined. 3️⃣ The invisible is just as important as the visible: Behind every big stage is a generator, a catering tent, and a tired-but-smiling logistics team. I’d love to hear from others in the event industry: What’s your biggest "from blueprint to reality" moment? Wishing you all a festive season filled with joy, laughter, and well-deserved rest. Here’s to a new year full of creativity, collaboration, and unforgettable moments. #EventPlanning #FestivalDesign #BehindTheScenes #EventManagement #LocarnoFilmFestival

Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity begins next month, but how many awards will be won by campaigns that advocate for nature? Creativity is at its best when it’s solving our biggest problems for business, people and, most critically of all, our planet. And there aren’t many problems bigger than the nature crisis. We all rely on nature for food, water and the air we breathe. It makes us happier. It does way more than its fair share in absorbing our carbon emissions, and over half of the world’s GDP is moderately or highly dependent on it. Yet nature is in catastrophic decline. There won’t be businesses or agencies collecting Lions Statues in the decades to come unless we halt and reverse nature loss by 2030. We need creative minds and creative energy to focus on how to get us there. Let’s save some real lions, and win gold ones too. Fortunately, some campaigns are leading the way, and I’m hoping they’ll be the talk of Cannes: 🕊 Sounds Right - Nature Becomes a Spotify Artist: This collaboration launched on Earth Day, making nature a royalty-earning artist on Spotify, and allows us to recognise and finance the role nature plays in every aspect of our lives. It’s projected to raise more than $40m for conservation efforts in the next four years. https://lnkd.in/dJPAHjMb 🌱 The Agency for Nature - Various Artists Bringing together some of the best young creative minds from the UK, this mega brief germinated a whole host of wild ideas, from an EcoKarmaSutra to a high-fashion nature label, aiming to reconnect us with nature and remind us it's worth fighting for. https://lnkd.in/dq9CQbXh 🌳 Woodland Trust - Plant More Trees Featuring the inimitable Adam Buxton, beautifully crafted, and carrying a really simple message about the role nature can play in mitigating the climate crisis. What’s not to love? https://lnkd.in/dyK9pdth Here's hoping these campaigns get the recognition they deserve and spark more creativity for nature.
