I’m working on a free resource to help parents of children with additional needs find the right people for their extended 'village'. If you have a neurodiverse child and/or a child with additional needs, I would love to hear about your experiences finding your support team (think speech therapists, OTs) - the green flags that made you think, “Yes, this is the right person for us.” Your insights (shared anonymously) via the link below will help craft this guide to help other families find the right help. Your input means so much! 2-min survey here: https://lnkd.in/gph3j-SU

Psychotherapist who believes kindness and love are the key components for any mental health treatment.
❤️❤️❤️ - Every individual deserves counseling services that not only address their concerns but also acknowledge and respect their unique human experience. Simply diagnosing a problem does not suffice; rather, it requires pairing clinical insight with empathy for the person's lived experiences. - Counseling should be tailored to each person's specific needs, taking into account their distinct challenges and circumstances. It is essential to recognize that humans are more than just their symptoms or issues, requiring an approach that looks beyond mere diagnostic labels. - Julius Jefferies ASDCS ELD C-GC LPC #mentalhealth #love #kindness #diversity

Author of ParentAssess and Winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award - Social Worker of the Year Awards 2022
This is a useful article. ParentAssess has always encouraged a trauma-informed approach to assessment. This is not always easy, because building trust with someone who is assessing whether your family remains together is very difficult and often it takes time. Assessors need to skillfully explore past events being mindful this can potentially re-traumatise but they do this in an effort to understand the impact of trauma on parenting and attachments. They also work with the parent to think about how coping strategies and more positive patterns can be developed. By adopting this approach we are seeing more positive assessment outcomes and parents are reporting they understand much more about their parenting and relationships. #parentassess #assessment #familylaw #socialwork

Freedom Friday: Why Decolonizing Therapy Is Essential (part 2) Let's continue the conversation about why decolonizing therapy is so important—straight from the voices of clients who’ve experienced the harm of colonial approaches: "My counselor lacks awareness about my identities." "My counselor uses macro/microaggressions." "My counselor only uses Eurocentric approaches." "My counselor lumps me into stereotypes instead of seeing me as an individual with my own lived experiences." "My counselor is unaware of their power and privilege, and it shows." "My counselor doesn't understand how my intersecting identities contribute to my pain." "My counselor advocates for 'color blindness.'" "My counselor's office only has white therapists... no one looks like me." These experiences highlight the urgent need for change. When therapy ignores who you are, it can't truly help you heal. Decolonizing therapy means creating space for your full, authentic self. While the voices of our clients are crucial to hear, it's also important to remember our ethical duty to do no harm to those we serve. Stay tuned for next week's Freedom Friday as I dig deeper into that topic. #FreedomFriday #DecolonizeTherapy #ClientVoices #InclusiveHealing #EthicalTherapy
